I am running an EEZRV TPMS system on my Winnebago Journey. The PO passed it along to me when I bought it. He apparently only put sensors on his toad, which was a Ford Fiesta.

I'm switching from towing a trailer, which is no problem putting sensors on. The EEZRV will handle up to 18 wheels.

Now switching to towing my 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid which of course, like most new vehicles has it's own onboard TPMS.

Question is, to put sensors on the toad, do I just screw them on like I did with the trailer? This vehicle is towed with the ignition and ACC off.

They should just read the pressure coming through the factory sensors at the valve stems. Since the factory sensors are always putting off a signal that only reads the factory system, has anybody experienced any interference.

Is it possible to get the EEZRV system to read the factory sensors without adding additional sensors?

I like simple. I just installed the repeater. Not sure why but I had it and on occasion I would loose a reading from one of the rear duals. Usually came back in a couple minutes, but the repeater should eliminate that, plus get me a strong signal from the toad.

Anybody do it?

The EEZ sensors depress the shrader valve when screwed on and they are just reading what they get from the valve stem so they should work just fine on the toad.

Id be surprised if you could get the monitor to recognize the toad’s factory tpms sensors. The only way to do this would be to use the “air activation” method detailed in the instructions - it works for EEZ sensors, but it’s a long shot because the toad sensors would have to transmit the same signal on the same frequency, but it’s theoretically possible.

Agree with R.Wold

We use EEZTire on our toad. We pull it on a dolly, so I've only got sensors on the rear wheels. They work fine. The EEZTire sensors work with the EEZTire monitor, and the factory sensors still work fine inside the car. Neither interferes with the other.

Oh BTW, our RAV4 came with metal stems.

Just a couple of months ago, I added the EEZ sensors to the Malibu and they've been working fine.

For the best reliability, you should have metal valve stems on the car. The weight of the screw on sensor at the end of rubber valve stems, has been known to flex and eventually break the rubber, leading to rapid air loss.

But that would be a million dollar idea. A translator which reads the factory Sensors which virtually all new cars have and converts it to the signal the RPMS can read.

Now to find an electrical engineer that can do that.

Ideally there would be some SAE (or other) standard that they all adhered to. But that’s probably just wishful thinking.

Maybe or maybe not. The TPMS sensors on my Equinox go to sleep after they have not spun for a while to save the battery. They do not update until the tires start spinning OR until some undefined large air loss occurs.

My TST 507's use the common CR2032 battery and report the pressure all the time so it's reliable to check the pressures while parked for a while.
