Remember, under normal driving conditions the Allison runs 10 to 15 degrees below the engine temp.
The fluid leaving the automatic transmission is returned thru the lower radiator coolant tank heat exchanger and normally maintains the same temperature as the engine coolant flowing back into the engine. In this way a cold transmission is quickly brought up to a stable operating temperature being as important as cooling the oil when needed.

On our DSDP I very seldom see over 160° and it's hard to get the temp up enough to use the onboard level indicator on the keypad.

If this is the case, I wonder why my Allision ran a steady 205 and the 370 ISL ran a steady 200 for the 10 hours of travel time last week. (see post #7) These are temperatures as recorded by my Silverleaf VMSpc. What might be causing this and is this cause for concern?

I also should have stated the transmission temp depends upon the type of transmission heat exchanger installed by the chassis manufacture. It may be in the lower radiator tank or a completely separate tank that has engine coolant piped to it from any of several places on various engines that may coincide with engine thermostat temp or lower radiator tank temp of coolant returning to the engine.
