Traveling Blue Ridge, GA to Sevierville, TN

We are traveling in a Dutch Star DP 44' and are leaving from Blue Ridge, GA traveling to Sevierville and surprisingly the Garmin and RV Trip are trying to take us on HWY 64 along the Ocoee River. We have done this in a car and towing a TT and I think I would have to cover my eyes the entire way to do this in a motorhome. We are thinking about going back to Elijay, to Chatsworth and then taking 411, then jumping on 64 to get to 75. Anybody travel this to not have to go the full route on 64 or know of a better route? We really appreciate it!

IMHO US-64 west is better than US-129 or US-441 I can't comment on US-74 to US -411 as I have never gone that way.

I like 411 from Chatsworth to Maryville, then 129 to 168, to 441 to Sevierville. Did this route last summer and it is good. 411 is 4-lane a lot of the way.

But how are you getting from Ellijay to Chatsworth? 52??? 76? I am not sure 76 is that much better than 74 along the river.

Regards.

Chuck

We live in ellijay. The road to chatsworth is in good shape, BUT a lot of uphill twisty downhill and one low RR bridge(passable). Should be low river traffic this time of year, and yes very twisty. Going backwards a bit from BR to Ellijay then back over to Tn.

Thank you!

Thank you! We arrived yesterday, thank you for the responses, we ended up going 76 to Chatsworth although there was a bridge at 13'7" we thankfully got under and I still think it was better than passing logging trucks on 64. We took 411 to Cleveland, then 60 bypass to jump on 75. 76 was twisty but overall good road. It was out of the way, leave it to last minute plan changes!
We are still so new to this beast and makes us so nervous going a different route than the Garmin wants to take us so we appreciate the knowledge here! Safe travels and Merry Christmas everyone!!

Sorry…late to the party. HWY 64 along the Ocoee River is vastly improved after it was shut down several years ago by a rock slide. While closed the two 25 mph curves were widened so meeting a 18 wheeler in one of them is not a issue.
From Blue Ridge/Blairsville I actually use 68 in our 45’ (Turtletown to Sweetwater) BUT I would not recommend for faint of heart with a new Big rig as there are multiple very sharp, narrow curves without many places to pull over and let the locals by. It does save a bunch of miles and most of it is a decent road in a very pretty area.
