Trek with Cadillac Engine???

Help me out here folks. My brother ran into a deal on a 2004 Trek 28', but the owner is telling him the gas engine is a Caddy engine. The one that starts on 8 cyl and then drops down to 6 cyl as it starts to cruise.

Is this true or did they switch engines?

Any comments??

All I could find on NADA was Ford or wrkhorse chassis but no mention of particular engine in the workhorse chassis.

There was never any such engine that was installed in a Trek...never. The 2004 Trek was a 8.1L Vortec - 496CID.

I own a 2003 Trek.

Someone is confused. GM used the 454 Chev. motor or the Vortec 8100 GM engine in the workhorse chassis. GM did use selective cylinder management system in some Chev. trucks. It is on the small block. The famous 4-6-8 engine in Cadillac was in 1981 0r 82 if memory serves.

Nope. No caddy engine in a trek. At least not from the factory.

A previous Trek owner.

Thanks folks, I told him it's got to the 8.1 or my favorite the 454 Vortec. He called back and said it is the 454 after checking it further. At 18,500 it sounds like a pretty good deal. Evidently it's been sitting for sale over a year. He's pretty savy on mechanical issues, I told him to really check out the ceiling for water leaks and around the windows also. Guess I'll check out the NADA also.

NADA, especially for Trek's, is difficult to go by.

Are you aware of the Trek Tracks forum? A great bunch of folks with a huge wealth of information and willingness to share/help. The classified section there may offer some insight.
