TriMark 030-900 Entry Door Lock Will Not Open With Handle

Lots of Class A and a few Class C motor homes use this lock, and it's a good lock that too may people end up spending $500+ to replace, because they don't know this simple fix.

You can also find yourself unable to open the door, when you return to your campsite, and you have to call a locksmith, because you did not pay attention to the warning signs...

PROBLEM: DOOR WILL NOT OPEN (Sometimes):

FIX: Working from the inside of the door, you can remove the “star screws” that hold each half of the lock together… then rotate the outside plat out of the way just far enough to…expose a very small “catch piece”… that is part of the inside door plate. This catch piece or tab sticking out is only ¼” long. (See arrow in picture below.)

Note: The red circles in the picture indicate where you can find your door lock part number. Or you might find it written in black marker pen on the inside plate. This number is important if you need to order parts... and Trimark used all sorts of different part numbers back in the day so be prepared to get frustrated if you need parts. Fortunately, t his "TAB" does not brake off very easily.

And this tap moves an internal lever (that is part of the outside door plate mechanism) which in turn makes contact and pushes the “internal locking lever” to OPEN… when you pull on the door handle.

This “Tab” can easily get bent slightly down… to the point when it stops making contact with the outside plate.

EASY SOLUTION: Take a needle-nose pliers and bend this little tab back up!

VOILA, you have a functional door locking assembly that will no longer lock you out of your RV for $0 spent.

Note: You will not be able to separate the two lock halves. And the picture blow with clear exposure to the Tab you seek is not going to be you like what you will find. What I am saying is that you will barely be able to expose the lock area to reach the tab.

===> After you are done bending the tab and your door opens properly; you probably should adjust your door look too. (See picture.) To do this:

* The end or edge of the door... remove black plastic cover plate (1"x1") so you can access the 12mm Lock Adjustment Nut.

* Follow the instructions in the picture.

Note: If you find you can't open the door, then let DW try... sometimes a different touch is what it takes for that tap to catch... that, and different people "side-load" the handle just enough to open the door. Or you might find that temperature play a role too. Either way, as soon as you find your door "sometimes" not opening; that's the time you need to adjust your door lock. And when you do i recommend you have someone on the inside who can open the door just in case you didn't adjust the door right from the outside.
