True Center steering damper

My 16 Winnebago already had the true center installed when I bought it last year.
Last night we stayed at a campground and I happened to look under the front and saw the little metal box hanging by the electrical connector.
The connector was zip tied to the damper, not plugged in to anything.
The boot on the damper was pulled apart and the whole apparatus was rubbing against the tie rod (I think). I don't think I hit anything on the road. There was no other damage under the coach.
So I watched a couple videos about installing the true center and this morning I just took it off.
I left the bracket in place for now because I don't have a torque wrench with me to retourqe the nuts.
Drove all the way across Arkansas and a little way towards Houston today and the coach didn't feel any different at all. Drove great like always.
I don't think it was doing anything since it wasn't connected electrically anyway.
Why would someone install this $1300.00 item and not connect it?
Now I don't know if I should consider getting another steering damper or just go without one.

Just get the wiring hooked up. It is easy and you will like it when working properly. We have had a tru center before and loved it although we do not have one now.

Is the driver’s side bent? Looks like someone backed into something? The TrueCenter is the only type I would use... adjustable on the fly. Previous owner put a Safe-T-Plus on my 08 Navigator which I disconnected after 4000 miles because I could not change the center position as conditions (mainly wind) changed...making it tiring to drive. You're probably right.
But I think this one is destroyed.
I don't see myself buying a new one for this coach. This is our first time snowbirding. Staying in Houston area for the winter. Then taking 4-6 weeks back to Ohio via West Texas NM Arizona etc.
If we decide we both love it I think I'll want to go into a dp.
