Judging the work done in a negative manner is unfair since no one here really knows what happened. Granted it was not found (2 years later) in the condition it was expected to be found in but .... was it never correct ? Did it just come loose ?

One way is to just ask the friend. Saying that he was not a good mechanic is nothing but a guess on everyones part. Let the guy defend himself unless you are OK having others blindly judge your work.

Since the other 3 shocks were not loose, a likely explanation is that he simply forgot to tighten that one nut after getting both top and bottom started. Not sure anyone could claim they've never made a similar mistake.

Yeah it could of been that maybe that 1 shock wasn't torqued to spec. Maybe an oversight who knows. You know the ol saying, "nobody will take care of anything that's yours as good as you will".

When I replaced my shocks a couple of months ago I was advised by 2 distributorships and Koni themselves that the shocks should be torqued to 125lbs. There's also supposed to be 2 washers/bolt. One on the bolt, insert bolt, then washer, then teflon nut, torque to 125lb.

BTW...these new Konis replaced 4 yr. old OEM Bilsteins, WOW what a difference. $650 for a set of 4.

This is the reason I always check the work of another. He may be incompetent or it could have been an honest mistake, either way, always check the work.

I should have said xfriend. It seams he butt dialed my wife while talking to his wife and blamed my wife for part of his problem which brought my wife to tears. He now lives somewhere up north of Texas. I was not able to check the other 3 yet because the cold hit. Being a disabled veteran there is some jobs that is hard to do. A 10 minute job will take me 2 hours to do. I have my grandsons on standby to help me.

I didn't mean the comment in a mean-spirited way. It was supposed to be a joke! I should have put a different Emoji at the end. I sincerely apologize if I offended anyone.

Well got to the other 3 and they were not at torque maybe 80-100 lbs of torque. But they are now good to go. Lesson learned.
