TSD Fuel Card Compromised in FL

Traveling between Naples and the Keys last week i stopped at a Pilot station at the edge of the Everglades in Miami for fuel. Got a settlement statement today and noticed a bunch of fraudulent charges over the next few days at truck stops throughout FL.

Called TSD as soon as I saw it and they shut it down immediately and said they will work over the next day or two to get me reimbursed for fraudulent charges. They were very helpful and i was able to get them on the line quickly.

Just a reminder, if you have an issue with your card call TSD to handle it and not EFS.

Any idea how this happened? Your control number is needed. Pay at the pump or inside using a human?

I paid at the pump but no control number was asked for. I've been using it for a few years and rarely have had to enter a pin number which shocks me. Probably a card skimmer on the pump.

I think that would be my first guess.

I have linked my EFS card with the Love's app that enables pump turn on using a smartphone (no card swipe). I believe that the TA/Petro app offers similar capability, but, I haven't tried that.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Take care,
Stu

I didn't think Pilot was part of the TSD program?? There was something about Pilot dropping out of it a couple of years ago because Pilot and Good Sam had a discount card??

Regards.

You can use the card, just don't know if you get a discount.

I have used the card for years for the RV and prior for my big rig. The EFS card always asks for a pin. On the commercial card it was driver ID and the RV card is the last 4 of your SSI.

I also found a charge on my card a year ago or so and it was fixed in a day, I think a number was transposed in the billing.

Even the Love's app needs the control number entered.

And you can use the EFS card anywhere it is accepted, but you won't get a discount at an out of network station plus it'll tack on a $1.00 fee from TSD.

Pilot/FlyingJ does not contract with TSD/EFS for discounts but you can use it. I have the app and just use my debit card and Good Sam membership for a whopping 8 cents per gallon discount if I stop there.

I have also always used a PIN to activate the pump. Strange that you would not be asked, I would see that as a potential red flag and inquire as to why.

Sorry to hear of the OP’s trouble.

Similar to what Stu mentions above for Love’s, we have the TSD/EFS card in the “TA/Petro Truck Smart” app so we never have to swipe the card, removing the potential for card swipe skimming.

Was that the Pilot on the corner of US 41 and Krome Ave ( FL 997) ? If so, I've had all kinds of problems there. It's a franchise location . I've called and emailed Pilot corporate and they always say they are going to take care of it. Well, they never did anything, so I no longer use that location.

More recently, I had an issue with Pilot in Michigan. They called me the next day and said I didn't pay for my fuel. I emailed them a copy of the receipt and credit card statement. They still said I didn't pay. I called corporate. Gave them the info and after 3-4 weeks they finally figured out that the station manager was wrong... since then, I have not been back to a Pilot/Flying J. I get much better rates at Loved T/A with my TSD card anyway and Pilot/FJ's are dirty dumps compared to Loves.

It is that location on 41. I wanted to top off before heading down to the Keys and that was the most convenient spot I could see.

That's why I used to stop there, top off before heading to the Keys. Now, I stop over by Ft Myers at Loves on my way down.
There is also an easy access station at the corner of Krome Ave and W. Palm in Florida City just before it merges onto US 1. I have used that at times.
