Tyron Bands

Hey everyone, just wanted to share an experience we had with the purchase a 2017 Fleetwood Motorhome. At the time of purchase we paid $2000 for Tyron Bands to be installed on the front wheels (to prevent a tire from shredding and coming off the Rim). I spoke with the previous owner and he stated that he had paid $2000 to put the Tyron Bands on and said he bought the Motorhome new and the Bands were on from day one of his ownership. I visited the dealer thinking it was an innocent mistake to charge us for something the Motorhome was already equipped with. The manager got hostile saying I was accusing him and his dealership of being dishonest. He stated that we were charged the $2000 because the warranty for the Tyron Bands that were already on the vehicle was transferred to my wife and I and that they have a cost associated with that. I explained that I was told that it was an option at the time of purchase and we didn't have to proceed with the Bands. So, long story-short, the original owner paid $2000 and we paid $2000 so the dealership has $4000 in revenue off the same Tyron Bands. When I questioned the manager on this, he told me to get an attorney and tried to throw me out of his office. Needless to say I got nowhere with the discussion and left. I feel frauded and not sure what to do. Is this standard practice with these bands? The dealership gets to keep charging $2000 for each new owner for the same Bands just because they transfer the warranty. Has anyone experienced this or have any thoughts? Thanks

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined us!

I would definitely consult a local attorney! I be you can find someone who will take the case at not cost to you, getting a percentage of what he gets out of the dealer. Sounds like a slam/dunk to me. I would consult with more than one attorney! I would also turn in the dealer to the local Better Business Bureau.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Before you jump on the attorney bandwagon, call the Tyron company and get the straight info on warranty transfer costs if there is any.
Might be tough because they are not an American company

Where is the printed warranty that they're charging you for. It's not enough to charge you without some documentation that there is a new/changed warranty. Since Tyron bands sell for about $1200, how is it that it's more expensive to transfer ownership.

If they didn't initially provide you with new warranty info, I would quit dealing with them and take them to small claims court. Cheap to file and they may settle to avoid court.

An attorney for a potential $2000 claim with contingence payment? No attorney, not even Saul, will take this on even if you sign over the entire potential claim. A first time DUI attorney representation will cost you more. This is small claim, self service territory.

To the OP, if you want to push this for some type of refund start by gather up as much documentation as you can that is directly related to the event and write down everything that has happened taking ALL emotion out. Dates, time, people, topic of discussion and such. "Just the facts" stuff. From this point forward all dealings with the seller should be in writing or email. And no mention of possible legal action if you do communicate. When you're ready file a a small claim application but don't wait to long. You could also consider your state consumer protection office or the Attorney General but you'll still need the documentation to support your claim.

I thought the cost was @ $1000 ea for the bands, therefore $2000 for a set would be about right. Here is a link to the USA office that you can contact.

Sounds like you caught the dealer trying to hit a home run.
Small claims court once you check the facts. I wouldn't bother with an attorney.
Any judge can see through this one.

Tyron Bands

We ordered Tyron on our first coach, and soon discovered they were never installed. Just make sure the “stickers” are on the rim.
We soon discovered how flaky the dealer was, and double checked all add-ons with the manufacturer,

Agreed with small claims (this is just not worth a lawyers time), and with collecting information/ documentation/communications. I think the fact that the manager became so defensive and combative is a big hint that they knew you had caught them doing something inappropriate.

My only real comment is a question whether pursuing $2k is personally worth it to you in terms of the hassle, frustration, and conflict you will endure if you pursue a claim? Maybe better to collect the information, then just pass on to the local better business bureau and your states attorney general, and let them act against this dealer?

When I bought our coach at Lazy Days in Seffner, Florida. They sold us on the Tyron bands. I have the paperwork they provided us on closing day. My front tires will soon need to be replaced, and I will make it a point to inspect the Tyron bands and photograph them installed.

I hope you received all the special tools required to change your tires - with the Tyron bands in place the tire guy will not be able to remove the old tires, or replace them, without the tools that Tyron supplies. There is a special hex socket that is used to loosen the band so it can be removed, and another tool to compress the sidewall of the tire so the socket can actually reach into the tire. In our case we had the socket but not the compressor tool and it made our tire guy work a lot harder to remove the old tires. We ended up just trashing the bands.

I'm staring at my Tyron Band purchase agreement that I had installed in April of this year and there is no warranty. You're paying for the bands themselves and installaion which will help you in the event of a blowout. My document states "Tyron is designed to last the lifetime of your vehicle and to protect vehicle wheels from damage in the event of a blowout. Tyron will NOT guarantee to protect steering and braking gear or brake lines from damage should the deflated tire move inboard of the wheel.". You got taken advantage of. I just sold the MH I had with the Tyron bands on and wouldn't even think of making that an add. It costs more to take them off and reinstall them on a new MH. Dealers are getting extemely greedy these days since they have nothing to sell. I'm in the process of having a new Tiffin built and my dealer tried to void my sale and take the MH in stock so he had another MH on the lot. I agree this is absolutely not for an attorney. Small claims court and post the dealers name online, starting with this thread to get the dealers attention. You won't believe how tight the RV community is. You'll have a better chance with social media than court.
