If one buys from a China direct, then if the product ends up being crappy or defective, then the cost of shipping back (multiples of shipping to the US) exceeds the value of the product so it's a loss of gamble. I remember ordering a bearing for an RV water pump from China and the shipping was $0.25 to the US...how the heck is that possible.
That was my point of the difference between the vendor they found and "amazon" price difference. The reseller is essentially doubling the wholesale price and the amazon prices are closer to wholesale. Nothing wrong with this, just the facts that explain most of the pricing difference (the OP's question).
When I say "LED", I am generalizing the actual bulb AND the electronics as a consumer won't be buying raw bulbs (chips). And both are made and assembled in China (not US). Yes, the electronics are another variant. Since the OP I think is speaking of LED strips, the Controller and the strips are typically purchased together (along with the cheezy remotes they typically come with). So it's a kit.
One good news is if one buys a 12 volt system, they don't need to buy a power supply as the RV battery / charging system is the power supply.
When I install mine, they will be DMX controlled so the automation controller is the central user interface and rules system. But that's out of scope for the majority.

All correct thank you for clarifying.
