Upgrading electrical in Monaco
Anyone have information on upgrading the electrical system in a RV (2001 Monaco Motor Home,) from 30amps to 50amps. It is my understanding that it is possible. My question is, would it be wiser to take the coach to an RV Dealer like Camping World or is it something that a licensed Electrician can do? Thanx for any input...

Take your coach to CW for electrical work??
If you do, the next time you add to the black tank from above, the plastic throne may get re-named to "old sparky".

A licensed electrician can do it. I did it on our Itasca and the hardest part of the whole job was running a new 6ga, four conductor wire from the transfer switch to the circuit breaker box. It will require a 50 amp transfer switch and maybe a new circuit breaker box if yours won't accommodate the split 120v circuits.
I would definitely not take it to Camping World or a dealer, but some independent RV techs might be able to do it.

Lt. Dan has a good outline of what must be done. If it were me, I would contact as many RV dealers and RV repair shops as I could, and touch base with electrical shops, to see what the estimates are, and a list of parts needed. You could them make a decision on who to choose. If you have a CW near by, don't just rule them out. You should do a "back door" check for quality repairs though. The space that most manufactures a lot for electrical, may be small for 50 amp service.
Good luck

Hi Rocco
Glad to have you here in the forum with us. You're gonna like it here.
Camping World for electrical work is like getting a plumber to do neuro-surgery.
Happy Trails!!!

There is a good highly recommended shop here in central FL called Alliance Coach. RV Service Department | Alliance Coach | Wildwood, FL

Certainly not qualified to answer your question, however, "I" wouldn't take my RV to CW if it was coughing and sputtering it's last breath on the Florida Turnpike!
Looks like there's some good advice coming in for you, best O' luck!!!

I doubt if you could find a licensed electrician that would mess with it. Most of them don't even want to deal with home repairs, let along a strange beast like a motorhome that they don't understand. So yes, you probably want a qualified RV shop. CW would not be high on my list, though.
Whether upgrading from 30A o 50A is a major change or a minor one depends solely on what you now have. Sometimes it is a fairly simple change-out of a couple components, and sometimes it's a big deal and expensive in both parts and labor. I wasn't even aware that Monaco built a 30A coach in 2001, so don't have the knowledge to advise on your particular situation.
