Rules, there are no rules unless you create your own. As you can tell, it all depends on how YOU and yours decide. My DW and I decide all we have to do is travel thru the state in the RV or the Toad when RV'g. We or should I dare say I just haven't got around to posting the new US Map on our new MH. So many projects so little time.
Do what you want and what makes you happy. Its a game to us, to see if we can get 48 contiguous states.

We put ours on 2 small sheets of plexiglass 2' x 2', one for US map and one for Canadian map.

Store them behind one of the sofas when traveling then set them in the windshield when setup at our site.

Glad to have you here with us in the forum.

I am in the camp where you have to spend a night. Otherwise I guess you could count the states you flew over in a plane. As an after thought what if you drove into the state without your RV?

Happy Trails!!!

We follow that rule as well. As someone else said your map...your rules.

In the 10 months since we bought our coach, we've traveled in it 5 of those months and been in 41 USA states, the District of Columbia, and 5 Canadian Provinces.

At some point we might or might not tighten the rules to require an overnight. But, for now, it is exciting (for us) just to qualify for an additional sticker.

Since we have traveled in most states we only count the ones we stayed in in our RV for at least one night. Otherwise we would have no goal to attain!

While staying at NS Mayport famcamp a rig took the site next to us and had the U.S. sticker map on side. After chatting with the couple for a few days, the subject of the sticker map came up. The DW tells my DW that they only put the state sticker on the map if they had carnal knowledge in that state. The humorous thing was the couple was in their late 70's and the map was nearly full...LOL!

On a auto driving trip last year was headed down I-29 from Fargo going home to Atlanta. One of my co-workers is from Nebraska. I got off somewhere, don't recall where, that it was a couple of miles to the Missouri River and Nebraska so I drove across and turned around and back to the interstate and on my way.

Later back at work I told Nate I had finally been to Nebraska, and told him what I had done......... his reply was..... "thats ten minutes of your life you will never get back".

So yes, rules vary, whatever you make them.

By the way, that trip is what made me go out and buy a motorhome last fall, no more nasty motel rooms in little out of the way places, for crazy money.

Charles

Our rule is you have to spend the night.

We put ours on the side of our bedroom slide so when we are set up, we can see it.
