Used Class A Motorhome

Hello all! I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I'm looking at purchasing a used class A Four Winds Hurricane 34N RV. It is fully equipped: 2 TVs, satellite, 5.5kw generator, 27,700 miles, A/C, 3 slide outs, etc... It has no leaks and has all service records for transmission and engine. It is very clean and has no leaks. It comes with the electrical connector cable, tow hitch for towing vehicle and many other miscellaneous items. The seller is asking $50,500. Does this seem reasonable? Thanks.

That would depend on the year of manufacture, engine / transmission package, condition, tire condition, etc. Hard to say with so little information.

Sorry!!! It is a 2007 and has the Ford V10 with automatic transmission. The NADA value is $48,178 lower retail and $57,685 average retail. All tires are brand new.

Used Class A Motorhome

I believe the seller is asking too much, but he has to start by asking something for it. To compare there's a very nice looking 2006 located at a dealership in Tampa with 22,000 miles and listed for $40k. You'll find it on Rvtrader. A private sale I'd expect to pay below low retail. If everything checked out I'd offer $40k to start, and wouldn't pay more than low 40's for the unit you're referring to. My guess is he wouldn't get more that $25 - 30k for it from a dealer as a trade in. If he's offended by a $40k offer there are lots of other sellers of nice RVs out there who wouldn't be.

Good luck

^^^^^^ this

I've learned a LOT in the last few months about pricing and especially the "free" NADA guide (paid for by dealers . . . guess who it favors). My rule of thumb is no more than 80% of low retail as shown by the "free" NADA. There are a LOT of private sellers who are in love with their unit. OBTW, IMHO new tires are NOT an "adder", old tires are definitely a "subtractor".

Most important thing is be patient. There are a ton of nice rigs out there at good prices. On the other hand the are even more that are overpriced deal. You have to find the unit that suits you, and your budget. The rest does not matter

Your description makes it sound like the coach is very clean and seems to have been well taken care of. It may be worth the asking price if this is the case. Myself, i would do some dickering to see if the seller would come down a tad bit on the price. $40,000 may be a bit low but it probably won't hurt to start there and maybe meet somewhere around the mid $40s.

Imo, new tires (recent manufactured dates) are a good selling point. I would expect the selling price to be a bit higher than it would be for a similar rig that had older/mediocre tires.

At some point you have to make your own judgement if you think it is worth it. No one can make that decision for you. Do your research and be decisive. There are good deals out there but it is a seller's market right now.

Welcome to the forum! That price seems high. If the rig fits your needs and wants then negotiate. Look at several models there are a lot of options available. Have you driven a MH yet? Go to a dealer and try that. I would drive several different chassis' as well. We went in thinking we wanted a Ford chassis. We are die hard Ford people. Then we found a floor plan on a 2004 model that we loved and it was on a workhorse chassis. So keep an open mind.

I saw the RV in Florida that Sunny1 was referring to. If possible, I would prefer to buy local. The one I am looking at is identical from what I can tell from the photos. I am considering offering 42k and will settle for no more than 45k if the seller is will to negotiate.
