Value reduction '07 with 100K

Looking at an '07 diesel with over 100,000 miles, I want to make an offer off Nada average retail.

Thinking $7500.

What do you think?

You gave no info on the coach you want to buy! NADA Avg is not very accurate. It is a good place to start in my opinion but at least 20-30% below low retail. I'm convinced that NADA is an inflated price that has little to do with what coaches really sell for. I would look at MHSRV for a history of actual prices that RVs have sold for.

If that's the only thing you can find that might make a noteworthy deduction from "average" value then sure. Make your offer based on that. I think though, that once you see the coach in person (assuming you haven't yet) there may be several more things to consider. At that point you might want to reconsider. You start knocking too much from that value, and you're going to alienate the seller. Point being, take all the mental notes you like to establish a value in your mind, but don't make an offer until you've actually put your hands on the coach. My thought anyway, FWIW.

When negotiating a deal, always use a technique called "anchor and adjustment". Do not be afraid to go low and anchor the offer price low. If you start high you can never go backwards. You can always adjust your bid to a higher number but never go lower. Finally, there is no deal unless there is no deal. Usually, the seller will hold out above your offer price. At that point, you make your move to the door. If your seller realizes there is no deal here he may move his acceptance price lower. Otherwise you walk or change your offer price. Never, Never, Never agree to split the difference. Always negotiate until you have a negotiated price. When you are done, always ask for a small concession such as, "can you put new windshield wipers on also".

Get as much information as possible for your negotiations, such as any recalls, notable things that break in your desired model to purchase, gas mileage, NADA price, Carfax or any other tidbit of intelligence you can get.

Good luck.

Another good place to get a feel of what coaches are going for is PPL sold prices.
Used Diesel Motor Homes Sold - PPL Motor Homes

When we were buying our coach, I made a list of coaches similar to the one we were looking at, a few years older and a few years newer. That gave us a range to look at. I also showed NADA. I presented it to the seller. He looked it over, and then came down close to $10,000 to my asking price. We did a handshake agreement and it was then he said he was selling the coach complete with everything in it. We had not figured that in our price so we opened the negotiations again and increased my price for what I valued the items at. He walked away a happy camper as did we.

As a side note, high milage diesel coaches are not all that bad. They have probably been taken care of. I am more concerned with a coach that has been sitting in one place for a while, and maybe lived in continuously.

Does your prospective coach have all the maintenance records showing it was taken care of?

I would agree!! Sometimes even lower than that depending on what you are looking at. Seen things in NADA that are half the price of what you could find one for.
