Very Steep Hill at Campground

Made it!
Thank you all.
Found out that the transmission can be limited as low as first gear. On the way up I realized that there was a slight dip in the road, meaning the high side of the dip was even steeper. Slow and steady did it. The concerned looks on the faces of the bystanders did not help.

I think my concerns may have stemmed from an experience in my youth where I stopped my car at a red light on an extreme incline. Starting up again, I heard a loud crack from the transmission as a disc snapped.

The view of the flowing river made it worth the effort.

Glad you made it OK.

For any of you who have driven to the top of Pike's Peak, you'll relate to this one. I was nearly to the top in a rented Ford Taurus. The narrow road snakes up the side and the 180 degree turns are extremely tight and on the inside corner, extremely steep. In many places, you cannot see what's coming down when you're at the curve going up. Well, I am just climbing and turning on one of those 180's and here comes a car down and he's on my side (was probably afraid of the 1000 ft drop off the other side ) He got around me as I had to stop...then the car had no power left at the altitude to get going again! Then it hit me the AC was still on. Shut it down and the car had just enough umpf to get going again. Whew! And to think they race semi tractors up that thing!

Agree, the Allison is smarter than we are, it will select the correct gear...just put it in D and go.

We used to go to Landa in our 5th and it was very unnerving, but doable. My friend wanted to go last year and I passed. No way I was going to even try in the Aspire.

If there's ever concern, that's a sign you shouldn't go.
