Interesting indeed. What would be extremely helpful is knowing if your RV was titled using the Manufacture's Certificate of Origin (apparently bases year on Model of Unit) or by the VIN # listed on the title (with the 10th digit representing the year). For an 1998 the digit is a W an a 99 is an X. In my case the digit is a 7. What's yours?

I have never seen a thread with so many people saying the same thing. The title of the start is interesting though because it says vehicle identification number number.

This is the reason most service centers want the VIN instead of the model year when making a service appointment. That way they can supply the appropriate filters and other chassis supplies and parts for your coach.

We use the "coach" model year as the VIN would only tell us the chassis manufacturer. Unlike autos, the VIN does not tell us who made the "coach". The same chassis could be under a Newmar, Tiffin, Thor or whomever. For insurance rating purposes, we need to know the "coach" year, the manufacturer, the model and floorplan number to properly identify and rate the policy.

I had a similar experience with my motor home. The Spartan chassis sat on the
Fleetwood motorhome manufactures lot for 12 months and VIN (generated by chassis manufacture) says its a 2000 but the title says 2001. I don't think the dealer ripped you off. It is just the nature of two different manufactures involved in the completed unit. To resolve this issue, the feds would have to change the way they require the manufactures generate a VIN number and they are not going to do that.
