Vinyl Covering on Doghouse

I planning on recovering the doghouse using vinyl instead of carpet for a cleaner look. When getting quotes, one person said I can't use vinyl because of engine heat which heats up the doghouse. That is why they are always covered in carpet.
This make no sense to me, but I appeal to the wiser minds of those that have gone before me.
What say you, group?

This is what it looks like now.

If well insulated it may work but yes the doghouse can get hot and the Vinyl discolored. Maybe a fabric with some backing that matches would be a better option.

I’ve added insulation both inside and outside my doghouse, primarily to reduce engine noise. And I have NO heat coming through the doghouse. I haven’t covered my outside insulation at this point, but vinyl is certainly an option. If I want to cover it at all. (The shiny insulation facing doesn’t look all that bad as it is.)

Planning to use vinyl film glued to the doghouse? Check you glue specs, see what the max temp is for it. A well insulated (engine side), not factory, dog house should not exceed 100 degrees would be my guess.

Carpeting insulates, vinyl does not.

True but I don’t think carpet insulates much. If one wants to cut down heat and noise one needs to be a lot more aggressive in the approach. Without any insulation on or under the doghouse, I agree with others that heat as well as noise will be a problem for vinyl alone. My thought is that carpet doesn’t do that much to reduce either though.

I would make a template, use a heavy weight vinyl (car interior) and add insulation to the back of the vinyl. Have someone sew it up, so it slides on like a cover. You could use snaps to hold it in place.

Put foil insulation on dog house before covering with carpet, will help with heat a lot. Lately they have been insulating trees fro forest fires with it and it works well. Even a "space blanket" works good.

How does one attach insulation to the underside of the dog house, and with what? Probably getting a Coachman which has the biggest (specifically widest) dog house I've seen.

There are various manufacturers of, for example, under the hood insulation that comes with its own really sticky backing. Dynamat comes to mind but there are several. As long as the underside is relatively clean it will stick like glue. Make sure you have it where you want it before stick it!

Thanks. Is this stuff safe for under hood/dog house use? I looked at the under side of the rig's doghouse yesterday and it looks like the original (FG?) insulation was taken off (evidenced by strads of yellow stuff remaining where it was glued).

Mine came vinyl from the factory, there is no carpet inside at all for that matter. The insulation was poor-to-nonexistent, so I added about 50lbs of dynamite under the entire front section near the engine and it is quiet and cool now. The cover got pretty hot before I did that.

Vinyl- how you going to make the seams and handle the outside corners without it looking crappy? That’s why there is carpet with a short pile.
