waist water odor

New to us 2015 37AP Bus. The dealer swapped out washer dryer for the people that traded in the coach. We get wastewater odor in the closet and found an open pipe behind the area where the washer dryer would have been. I can see a waterless trap (Hepvo) near the bottom. Maybe it is bad and not sealing. But what I don't understand is if we cap the pipe off the black tank will not drain. There are 2 vents on the roof that seem to be open. Why would one of those not be the vent for the black tank?

One of those roof vents is for the black tank. Maybe it's plugged. I do not understand why the capped washer drain would affect the black tank. Ours drains into the grey tank as does every other motorhome we have had. Sounds like a possible plumbing mistake at the factory. I can't imagine any coach having a connection between the washer and black tank unless there is only one combined waste water tank.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Congrats on the new rig! One of the top vents should be for the black tank. It must be clogged! Keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Waist water - really? I know English is a pain but how about Waste water.

That being said, gray tanks can smell just as bad as black tanks. Dump some water down the washer drain pipe and see if the odor won't go away - at least for a couple of minutes. The Hepvo should seal against sewer odors but it may have been damaged by previous owners. You can either replace it with a new Hepvo valve or a standard P trap. You will have to make sure the P trap has water in it or the smell will be back.
