warranty question

Awning mechanism failed. Shop called Good Sams said they would not cover the repair under their extended warranty. Thoughts?

You just learned your first lesson in "Why NOT to BUY an Extended Warranty". If there is ANY excuse they can use to get out of paying they will.

How do warranty companies make money? By denying claims!

What has Good Sam said when you explained that to them?

I believe your interpretation is correct. They will cover mechanical issues pertaining to slide outs and related components but not awning fabric (and seals, etc.). Since your claim isn't for the fabric but rather for a mechanical issue that pertains to the slide awning mechanism, I would think it should be covered.

I'd call their claims number and question them about it if you haven't done so already:

National Claims Number: 888-861-8697 Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Mountain Time, Monday – Friday

But yes, I too am also one who does not believe in extended service contracts. I'd rather pay out of pocket for repair and be somewhat self-insured. These contracts usually do not pay off for most ...especially the house/coach coverage. They're always trying to figure out ways of not paying a claim ...Good Sam may be better than most in that regard but still, it's their goal not to pay a claim ...we know that's just common sense. On a coach as new as yours, I would have not paid for such coverage but that's not what we're discussing here so I'll leave it at that.

Good Sams should cover the awning mechanism repair.

Look at your policy, where it lists what is included or excluded. Many extended service plans don't cover awnings at all, but some may cover the mechanical aspects.

If you were thinking it covers everything just like the original factory warranty did, you are in for rude awakening.

Pull out your copy of the 'service contract' (extended warranty)
Read the Covered Items Section
Then Read the Exclusion Section

Contract is written with a bias towards the entity that wrote it
Exclusion Section is their enforcement clause

*MFG can issue/extend a warranty
Aftermarket vendor can not...just sell you a 'service contract'

Well...after speaking with them and then having the mechanic be more specific with the language, they did cover the slide motor. So happy ending I suppose.
