Like many others we bought an older cheaper motorhome to be sure we enjoyed it. We are weekenders for the most part and the coach we bought has generally served us well. We like it. But after the wife retires in a few more years I would like to get a bath and a half DP.

Our first MH was purchased specifically for one trip, Alaska..

It was a 21ft Micro-Mini Class C on a Toyota chassis.. Gas was $4 a gallon in the lower 48, $8 in northern Alaska, so getting 15 mpg was a make / break for the trip..

The MH was inexpensive enough so that if something serious happened, we could abandon it. i.e. if we broke down in Prudhoe Bay, it would cost several thousand dollars to tow it back to Fairbanks.

We sold it a couple years later for more than we paid for it, and bought something a little larger that would meet our current needs. (2001 Mirada)

Where did you find those kinds of gas prices? I live in Alabama, and saw gas spike to 3-4 bucks per gallon right after Katrina hit where the southeast was pretty much shut down. Other than that 2-3 weeks, we have not broken $3 that I can recall...

Pretty much what we expected, which wasn't much, but not about to break the bank for the crown jewel and a depreciating asset, either.
Waiting for the right one, to get old enough and affordable, along with our investments to increase in value, always pays off in the end, so no way, will we ever settle for entry level over quality, regardless of newness.

On several trips in the last 10 years , I've seen gas and diesel in the $4+ range, In the lower 48 , right now to the best of my knowledge it's $3,89.9 for gas on Northern California . If you think $3 is as high as it gets , you must live within sight of a refinery , and you don't want to hear about current prices in Canada.

Always buy the third rv first. First 2 were new Bounders. They were just okay. Sold them and bought 1999 Newmar Dutchstar. Excellent. Needed
a few new things over the last 6 years. Ac, gen set tires brake replacement. Awnings. Interior and engine trans are perfect. Much better construction the 2006 Bounderd. Nothing comes apart or falls off the walls. All components are super easy to get at if needed 💺😁😁😁❤

Somebody owed me some money, and had a MH they were trying to get rid of. Made a killer deal on a 2000 Damon Ultrasport DP. Had a few minor ( to me ) "character" marks . The result of a travelling nurse. So far I've put in $4700.00 in parts myself, but that includes 6 tires, oil and filter changes and general maintenance.
Had no idea or wanted a Motor Home, but I LOVE it! Am putting some serious miles on it. What don't work I'll find a way to fix it. To me it's a tool that's only job is to get me to where I want to go. So far I'm in heaven. Worse comes to worse, I can walk away with a clean conscience.

I bought my first one to live in during the week for an out of town project. I sold it within 2 years because the job was done and because of my ex. We went for 3 days on the coast and all she did was complain constantly that the tv only got 3 stations. The motor home was fine. Now I've got a new wife and new motor home.

Our FIRST motorhome was a class C. We had it for 11 years.

It was right for us, right up until the time that it wasn't.

Our current class A is right for us now, until the time that it isn't.

Then, we will get a diesel pusher when we retire.

We bought a 1988 32' Southwind in 1994 on a whim to see if we would like it. One trip and we were hooked. Sold it for $1000 less than we paid for it and the rest is history. We're on our eighth MH and the last six were new. I could not have bought the right one first, as our wants kept changing. After five years and 50,000 miles with our current one, we still don't see anything better than what we have, so maybe we have finally found the right one.

Our first motorhome was a 1991 Beaver Marquis which we kept for 19 years. Absolutely love the coach and put 154,000 miles on it. We are now on our 5th year in a 2004 Monaco Signature. The only reason we sold the Beaver is we wanted a washer and dryer and a residential refrigerator and went to full time living in the RV.

Wife wanted one 3 years ago. I wasn't that excited because we had a couple of trailers in the past and didn't use them enough. I figured the motorhome would b the same. We bought a 2002 gas put 10000 miles on it in less than 2 years was hooked. Sold it and bought the pusher a few months back. Really enjoy it.

we bought an Airstream diesel pusher MH because of our activities with the club. We spend less time with the club but more and more in the MH. Our only real issue is the lack of torque to pull up the long Western mountains while towing, other than that it is awesome. We may buy a second MH, but are planning on keeping this one as a "local rig" after a few years as we do longer and longer trips (it will be 15 years old or older by that time). We have had it for closing in on 4 years and put about 10,000 miles per year on it.

We had a TT and enjoyed camping but wanted to go "farther". My wife was not happy sitting in a truck all day, towing, especially for long trips.
So we started looking for a Class A, because you sit up higher and can enjoy the trip more. The 4th MH we looked at checked all the boxes and now, 8 years later, it has proven to be the right decision. Would we like to upgrade ...sure... but to find the right fit twice in a row...unlikely!!
