Washer/Dryer, Combo or Separate?

Wondering if anyone has experience with the difference in performance between seperate washer and dryer verses the combo units and if combo, which brand/model works best?
I currently have the Whirlpool separates but am considering replacing with a combo unit for more storage and less weight on the main slide.
Thanks

In my mh, it was equiped with a Splendide WD2100XC White Vented Combo; it does the job but it takes hours to do a wash and dry...; it only weighs 135 lbs !

The individual units will generally do a better job due to higher capacity of the drums. The Splendide combo is probably the most popular. Get the vented version if possible. Uses less water and gray tank capacity, and dries faster.

We have separate Bosch units and have had a combo unit in the past. DW will never go back to the combo because it takes to long and does smaller loads.

Separate units work better

We have the Bosch units and my wife will never go back to the combo. We can wash almost as fast as the units at home.

Thanks everyone, I figured there was "no free lunch" aspect (can't do wash and dry at same time) but was unaware of the capacity issue too!

I've had both, prefer the separate units but my dryer is a 240 volt unit. Might feel differently if it was a 120 volt dryer.

Same, but mine are 120V Aristons -- keep the separate units.

As usual it depends. If you're talking just two people usually, than a combo unit should be fine. That's what we have. The Splendide 2100XC (vented) is used as the clothes hamper and when it gets about 2/3'rds full we run it. That's every couple of days depending on what we're doing.

We actually use it more in dryer-only mode for drying off bath towels, beach towels, etc rather than hanging them outside or inside where they can raise the interior humidity. 40 minutes on Dry usually takes care of it.

But since you're currently using a separate washer and dryer that might be a hard sell unless you can show a concrete reason other than "Wouldn't it be nice to have more storage?".

If we had more people on a regular basis we would likely would go with dual units. That would require something bigger than our 38-footer and while I'm OK with that, my DW is not. Yet.

We have Kenmore separate units in the coach, very pleased with the capacity and ability to wash and dry at the same time. The combo unit my relative has in his fifth wheel does the job but as others have mentioned smaller capacity and the inability to wash and dry at the same time.

Seperate units allow you to wash one load and dry another. But the trade off is you need to be there to switch wet clothes. Combo units may be a bit slower, but no need to handle wet clothes. Load start and walk away. We have done three loads in one day. Usually when were out doing other things. So time to me is a moot point.

I wasn't aware that you can't wash and dry at the same time with stacked units! Or were you making that statement regarding the combo units? We have the old Splendide 2000 combo and would not be without one!

I was talking about not being able to wash and dry at same time with combo unit, but liked 450Donn''s comment about not having to be there to switch.
I'll try to research the capacity differences and maybe see if we can look at one of the Splendide 2100XC (vented) in a store.
Thanks again everyone for the feedback!
