Washing Tires???

Just wondering. Some will say I have way too much free time to come up with this. There are all kinds of products for treating our tires. They all claim to enhance the appearance and prevent premature aging. My coach has 8 tires with 16 sides. I can wash and treat 6 of those 16 sides. What about the 10 sides that never get washed or treated with those miracle products? I agree that when parking the coach for several days or weeks, the tires should be covered and I do if it will be awhile till we use it again. So my question is, other than appearance, what "REAL" benefit is there to scrubbing 6 sides of the 16 of my tires?? 10 sides will never be cleaned in seven to ten years of use. Our motorhome rarely sits for more than a few weeks between trips. With that type of use, I feel than the components in the rubber are active and the rubber is "Alive" for lack of another term. Soooooo, is there any "proven benefit" to scrubbing the tires and treating with 303 or other some product???

i've always understood that the 'tire dressings' make the tires look good but may actually shorten their useful life as the coating prevents the tire's natural oils from
rising to the surface which causes premature aging. is this not the case?

I understand that they will look nicer when cleaned, and I should follow that I wash the tires with soapy water with every coach washing, but do not apply any treatment as many do. I question any real benefit of 303 or other tire treatment. I doubt if many over the road semi tires get any treatment and they sure run more miles than any RV.

True, that's why I cover them when sitting. The trucks are in the sun all day long 365 days a year. Mostly rolling down the road, but also sitting in the sun uncovered.

It's not about miles - it's all about age as in yrs - OTR truck tires get replaced looong before RV tires... and they frequent truck washes more often than MH's so they do get washed.

and I'll guess - but can't say for sure - OTR owner / drivers are likely running at / near max PSI in tires - they aren't trying to get comfort but longevity and efficiency

Perhaps it’s not so much a treatment problem but when your at a couple of rest stops or trucks stops.....take a close look at some of those over the road tires running all those miles and hope and pray they don’t blow when your next to them.

DITTO....if the company or independent trucker is sitting than they are not making any money....those tires are rolling 90 percent of the time unlike an RV staying in your back yard or at some park.

I have read elsewhere in these forums (don't remember where) that some tire
dressings strip the uv protection from the tires, thus shortening their life.
