Water Pump in MH
We just got back from a weeks vacation and never had a problem with the water pump. Now the water pump runs while using the faucets and toilet then shuts off like it should but then about 20 seconds later it will run maybe 2-3 seconds then shuts off then it repeats until I shut the switch off. No water is coming out of the faucets or toilet and no wet carpet and nothing under the MH (thank heavens)?? Where should I start to look, it must be a leak correct??

Thanks, Tim

Correct, a leak is most likely. As for looking for the leak, I would check every connection and see if they are all tight. Also check your HW tank release valve.

Could be the pump itself is failing. The pump has a pressure switch and a backflow preventer.. to maintain the pressure until a faucet is opened. If the backflow valve is failing, it will allow the pressure to bleed off and the pump will kick on. I've had this happen on a boat water system.

2-3 seconds would not be much water, it also could be the check valve in the pump itself which could be letting pressure vent back throughthe pump and back into the water tank.

Had a similar issue recently with the FloJet pump in my 2013 Coachmen Mirada. My problem was a defective water pump. It not only could not maintain pressure like yours, but was also allowing city water to move from the city water connection into the fresh water tank and fresh water tank would completely fill up after 4 days. Dealer replaced my pump and that fixed everything.

Check your shower(s). If the pet shower, for instance, has it's valves ON, but the head is turned off, you'll get this symptom. Same with inside shower head. Since it'll dribble into the bathtub or shower stall, you may not notice it.

A leak within the pump can cause the pressure switch to think it should turn on, and it does, but almost immediately the pressure builds and the pressure switch turns off the pump.
If that is the case you will not see any leaking water.
New diaphragms, repair kits and pressure switches are available for most RV water pumps at much less cost than a new pump.
