water stains on ceiling

does any have any ideas for fixing the stains on the ceiling in my coach? the skylight in the bathroom leaked and it ran down the ceiling into the dining & livingroom

Im a drywall contractor in South Florida, and we deal with a lot of stains. If the stains are not too dark, we will use a moist non dripping rag with bleach and water. If it is an area where there is no carpet we will use a small spray bottle and apply several applications. I hope this will help.

Hi,

We just went through our motor home ceiling this past weekend. There were several water stains that we didn't believe could be cleaned. Ours has the fuzzy off white carpet fabric.
We started with Folex instant carpet spot remover, available at Home Depot. The 36oz bottle is about $6.00-$7.00 and will clean about 20-30sf. We sprayed until damp and used an old toothbrush with a gentle circular motion. Blot with a damp white towel.
This will loosen the stain and remove most or all of the discoloration. If any stain is still present, mix 3tbs bleach to a quart of water and repeat process. Let the bleach solution soak for 5-10 minutes.
This removed all of the stains and left the ceiling like new. We did a final clean with an upholstery attachment on a Rug Doctor carpet cleaning machine to blend in the rest of the ceiling.
It turned out nice enough to pleasantly surprise the wife.
I was concerned that the fabric would pull away from the ceiling panel, but that stuff is pretty well glued, it didn't move at all.

One thing to consider.

Finding old water stains is a BIG negative for potential buyers, in the future. They always assume the worst and think there is possible severe damate under the ceiling covering or even in the walls.

I have seen people have the whole RV ceiling material replaced before they sold or traded their Rig to avoid losing potential buyers.
