We finally got our new-to-us motorhome!

Hi Everyone,

After many months of researching and trying to decide what to buy, we finally bought a 2008 Itasca Ellipse 40FD (sister to the Winnebago Tour). It has a 400hp Cummins with the Allison 3000 tranny. I flew to Florida to buy it and drove it home to CA. We then immediately took it on a 17-day vacation, driving it over 3000 miles through several states. We visited Zion, Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, as well Mount Rushmore. Our only mishaps were a malfunctioning tow bar and a cracked windshield. Thank God I had bought insurance through RV America (with advice from people on this forum) and we had the windshield replaced right away. They didn't even charge me a deductible! As soon as we returned from our trip, Blue Ox also replaced our tow bar with a brand new one. Not bad for our first trip!

Since my DW and I are both retired, we're already planning another trip, this time a short one to the beach (much cheaper on fuel!) Thanks to all of you who made an impact on our decision and helped us in our quest. I'm sure there will be a lot more questions from this "newbie!"

What a success ! Great choice on a motorhome and it looks like you are on your way to many great trips in the future.

Congratulations, it sounds like you have got acquainted already with the new addition. I think the memories have just begun. Post some pictures we'd all like to see it. Safe travels.

Please forgive my poor forum etiquette in not responding in a timely manner with pics requested. We left on our first trip (from CA to Mt. Rushmore) right after we bought our coach, and then I completely forgot to post. Here are a couple of pictures of our new-to-us motorhome, one on my way back from purchasing it in Florida, and the other at a campsite in Wyoming.
