What is between old Beaver class A wall panels?

This is on my 1990 Beaver Patriot Class A diesel pusher.

I have not been able to find any videos of this type of wall paneling replacement. There are two sections in my home that need replacing now that the leaks causing the damage are repaired. Before I go cutting panels out, I want to make sure I have all the materials to put it back together properly.

First picture is the whole section of paneling I intend to replace. Second picture is closer so the joint can be seen (it's rotated 90 degrees, can't seem to get it to upload rotated correctly). (The marks on the wall are where my toolbelt rubbed while replacing the squishy subfloor. The pencil mark is where I might try to cut the panel instead of doing the entire height.)

What is the piece between the two wall panels that the previous owner painted over? Looks like some sort of strip that goes the length of the aluminum stud and rests between the wall panels...

Mine is a later model, but I go from a fiberglass shell that is about 1/4 inch thick glued to an inch and a half of foam insulation, glued to a piece of 1/4 inch lauan, that was covered with a padded cloth type wallpaper. Every few feet there is a piece of 1 1/2 inch square aluminum tubing for structure.

If the wood inside behind the wall paper is solid you can simply put on another wall covering. If it has been compromised you will need to replace the 1/4 inch lauan layer or maybe even the foam insulation.

If you peek the first picture, the leak did a number to the wood behind the paint. I want to replace that but the way the panels butt up to each other looks like some sort of trim piece that I want to source before taking a prybar to it.
