Try this: (661) 546-9086. Ford Diesel mechanic. Open until 7pm according to Google maps.

I don't have an auto club, or a car.

The only tow place I managed to get on the phone wanted to know where I wanted it towed to. I don't think it's the same person who would be driving the tow truck. Should I cross my fingers and hope they have a recommendation?

Some are "permanently lubed", in which case there would be nothing you could have done.

Others have grease zerks, and need to be re-lubricated periodically. When you get yours replaced, ask the mechanic which style you have.

If you're in the shop, have them look at the rest of the U-joints.

When I replace mine, I replace all of them. (I have 4 on my F53)

From the amount of heavy oil all over the rear differential it looks like you will need at least a new pinion shaft seal.....but I don't see the pinion yoke assembly either
Best have rear differential inspected

I have at least 3 hours before a tow truck comes to figure out where they should take me. They offered to take me to their location and then tow me again tomorrow when I find a place that's open, but I'm not sure how that's better than a tow to the Elks Lodge and then another tow tomorrow OR taking a chance getting a tow to a place that's closed today but might take me tomorrow.

Do you not see it because of the angle of the picture? I could take more pics, although not thrilled to hear about ten more things that might need to be done!
