I'm not sure if the older unit's have this option, but while out looking at motorhomes yesterday, the salesman mentioned a setup where you can set the temp on your thermostat, and as the day progresses and it gets hot while you are boon docking, the generator will fire up automatically at a set-point, run while the A/C is on plus charge the batteries, and then shut off once done? Not sure if this is something one can have 'added' to their unit, or at what year it starts being an option on specific models?

With that said, with the way technology is going, you would think you could also have your power-shades close to help keep the heat out once a temperature was reached?

If anyone has more information on this topic, please inform, as I find it quite interesting.

AGS is Auto Generator Start. There are thermostats that can be programmed to trigger the AGS to start the generator and then the A/C when needed. Dometic has a thermostat that does as you had described.

The only caution, if you're planning to leave a pet unattended in the RV, sometimes the generator won't start or the A/C will freeze up and not cool. Responsible pet owners would also have a programmed devise to call them on their cell phone if the temperature goes over a set temp.

Our Tuscany has this . It is a AGS that is tied in with the battery center.

Most of the newer coaches of some version of this.

You can add this on some coaches depending on your generator. On my coach the generator has Automatic Generator Start (AGS) for charging the batteries by monitoring the voltage. It did not have Temp AGS but I added it via a Onan AGS system.

The unit is called a EC-30W. It is wireless with the monitor in the coach and the receiver plugged into the generator. I have it set at a low Temperature so that if the power goes off it will AGS the generator. It does not shut off however after the temp is reached but it's better then nothing. We bought it for our dogs to make sure the coach never got hot.

Its called an Auto Generator Start of AGS system. Pretty std option on mid to high-end coaches with Onan generators. As stated, can be set to react to low battery or to temperature set on thermostat.
PS--suggest you close your blinds before departing for the day--technology aint there {yet!}{smile}.
