What size magnet to replace snaps on windshield sunscreen

What size neodymium magnets should I get to effectively hold my sunscreen on the windshield. It has snaps now and its a pain to attach. I have seen some that have magnets glued to the inside and a magnet stitched in a pocket on the shade. I would like to do the same to my shade Thanks

MagnaShade is the company making the screens with magnets. Have no idea if they will sell magnets only.....go to YouTube to see details and installation

I bought a set of sun shades that were the snap on kind. I decided to modify them with magnets. Not as easy it would seem.

I bought these magnets off Ebay

N45 Neodymium Magnets Dia 1x1/8" NdFeB Rare Earth Disk Magnets 20-Counts

If I had to do it again I would get stronger magnets, I had to double them up to get better holding power. My first attempt was to glue them on the sun shade but they would not hold. I then took some heavy material and made a round patch and sewed them on, seems to hold don't know for how long.

I took the same magnet and used double side adhesive tape to hold them in place, again a stronger magnet would be better.

Overall my modification worked, again if I would have stronger magnets it would have been better.

Neodymium magnets on shades.

I did my shades a couple years ago and it has worked out great. I found a place in Dallas on the internet that has any size, shape and power neodymium magnet you can think of. I ordered n52 which was the most powerful offered at that time. I sewed pockets on the screens for the magnets and used 1" Dia. by 1/8" thick round magnets. I used magnets at the top of all my screens and kept the thumb turn catches at the bottoms. I found that the N52s both on the screens and inside on the windshield and windows was to much and I did not like the way the magnets would slam together on the glass.
Seemed like a great way to break a window.
In order to place the interior magnets you have to break out the ladder 1 last time and hang the shades 1 last time on the top thumb turn catches and then place the magnets inside right at the magnet in the pocket of the shade. I used super glue for this. I replaced the interior N52 magnets with 1" Dia. by 1/8" N 46s. I did not do magnets on the bottoms because they are readily accessible from the ground .
I needed a way to locate the screens at the top so I sewed pockets Outside In several spots on the windshield screen and at the top corners on the remaining window screens. I had a nearly full length shop broom handle that I turned down on the end so as to fit into the pockets outside and place the screen at each magnet. Used the ladder 1 last time to take the magnetized screens down and it has not been out of its storage spot since.

I talked to the people mentioned in this thread

at the Quartzsite show but they would not share information as to magnet strengths and were not interested at all in modifying my screens such as I have described above.

This has really worked well for me. A word of caution tho. If you order magnets and play with them keep your fingers out of the way. The magnets will attract and slam together. They can take the meat off to the bone. They are not the toy magnets we played with when we were kids.
