What to do before towing?

Have never had to have the coach towed but, after reading posts from others, I would like to have a checklist of things to do before towing, just in case. I'm sure not all tow truck drivers know what to do. I'm aware of disconnecting the drive shaft, but what are some of the other things to do before having a gas motor home towed? I appreciate any input.

Gas Motorhome, pull driveshaft or both axles, if parking brakes are on rear wheels, release that, pick up the front and go.

Tow trucks, sized for RVs, are a bit complicated and expensive. The operator will have some training and will know what to do.

Dana recommends pulling shafts, Ford says to disconnect driveshaft. I'm not sure if a tow truck would carry the right sized caps for the Dana axles so I am thinking most likely you would disconnect drive shaft. You can't pull axles without have a cap to keep the bearings properly lubed. Stuffing in a rag won't cut it.

Forgive me for speaking out of turn, I don't even have an RV (still researching) but wouldn't the owner's manual list all of the procedures and steps needed to tow your RV and how to perform them?

Yes. I write them down on a 3 x 5 card and put it in the glove box.

Right next to the owners manual.

The Dana manual stipulates pulling the axles and I have been meaning to speak with them about this. With the 242" wheelbase, not sure you can lift the front enough to run the pinion dry.

One thing I did do was take four colors of paint and mark my rear driveshaft connection is if it is removed I can ensure it goes back the same way.

After reading about tow truck drivers stripping off the bolt heads, I went and bought the correct socket and a set of bolts too. Another thing to carry.

NEVER trust your house to a tow truck operator.

Photograph everything.

When in doubt STOP the operation!

Get the proper checklist from your chassis manufacturer.

We've all heard stories about tow truck operators disconnecting the WRONG end of a driveshaft and simply wiring it up, then driving away, ruining the rig. Or, breaking bolts off on the universals. AND supply auxiliary air to the incorrect location thinking they were actually airing up BOTH air tanks (but not) and locking the parking brake "off." OR, towing a rig by lifting the front when that rig had to be carried on a flatbed.

Folks on this forum do not have all the answers - including me.
