I bought some caulk at a big box store guaranteed to be waterproof. What I didn't realize was that it wasn't waterproof till it cured. Then it rained that night and tha caulk ran down the front of the MH. Still haven't been able to totally remove it off the 3M film.

!00% waterproof is not 100% silicone. I use the all silicone stuff but that is just me. Or the caulk made for roof penetrations. JMHO

I use dicor for all my RV sealing requirements. There is a hortizonal use product and a vertical use product. These have always worked great for me.

Adamsta-

Sometimes the owner's manual will list sealants.

Sometimes the manufacturer can supply a sealant callout sheet. Here's a link to Coachmen's "Contact Us" Web page.

The seams in the photos all appear to be a rubber trim cover, which means the actual water seal is under the trim. The edges alongside can be further sealed, but it's largely cosmetic at that point. You can use any sealer/caulk compatible with the adjacent surfaces. One side appears to be a roof membrane, so if it is EPDM I would be careful to use an EPDM-compatible caulk, e.g. the Dicor Lap Sealant. It is compatible with most everything, so a good all-around choice.

The Dynaflex 230 shown is a good general purpose sealer and probably fine, but check the label for compatibility.

Silicone caulk is horrible for RV use for so many reasons. There are much better more reliable products out there.

Failure to follow application instructions is not the fault of the caulk.

When it comes to rubber roofs there are great products out there. I would only use Dicor and Eternabond myself because they are both compatible and tested with rubber RV roofs. What you find at the big box store hasn't been tested to be compatible.

You also want to use fresh caulk that has not been exposed to extreme temps in particular freezing while in the tube.

Some swear by silicone...
Others...myself included swear at it.
It's a weak adhesive and tends to pull away. And nothing...even more silicone won't stick to where it has been used.
You need to use a silicone remover... acetone... or wet dry sand the area to get anything to stick.
Urethane based sealants are great for many applications.

Silicone sealant/adhesive is great for some things. For what the OP is wanting to caulk, it ain't!

Dicor is a good product to use on almost everything RV roof related but if it were me, i'd try to find out what the manufacturer used in the first place. Winnebago has lists for all the sealants and adhesives used on a lot of their RVs. I'm sure other companies do as well.

Should have told the whole, story I guess.
My headlights are held in by caulk only. I replaced one headlight unit since tbe adjuster was broken. That's the caulk that ran. My rig has a one piece front cap, roof and rear cap, no seams anywhere.

ProFlex RV clear sealant is best for those seams. It stays flexible and is compatible with TPO and rubber

I usually like to help folks here if I can but when I don’t know what type of MH we’re talking about, trying to reply to a vague question at best, trying to seal what ?, can’t tell what the pic’s are and have no idea what cauck is…I’m going to pass on this one. Sorry.

You have seams. The front cap, rear cap and side roof seams. Plus anything that cuts an opening in the roof or side of any RV is a place where water can come in.

I bought my rig in June. Went over it with a moisture meter it was dry. It only takes a short time for things to let water in. I need to reseal the skylight over my shower. My clearance lights are leaking like a sieve.

I looked over my skylight. Im not even sure where its leaking from, it looks that good. I was planning on putting eternabond on everything anyway so not a surprise or real concern.

Hey Mr. D,

A friend of mine said he saw your headlight when it fell out of the front cap after that rain event washed out the caulk and caught a picture of it. Were you able to get it back in and look back to OEM?
