What type and height ladder do you recommend?
Which ladder should I get to take with me in/on my 1992 Fleetwood Bounder?
I was searching for some info on this but I was overwhelmed with irrelevant results, so sorry if this has been discussed before.
I thought I would post it in Class A Motorhomes because people would be more likely to have a similar height rig with similar needs to my own.
What ladder do you travel with? What height works best? Any ladders you don't recommend? What is the best way to carry it? Where is the best place to get a ladder?
It seems like it should be much simpler, but I am suffering from decision paralysis.
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Everyone carries something different but the telescoping variety are very popular. IMO it needs to be at least a couple feet taller than the roof of the coach. My coach is 13' & the telescoping one I use is 15'6". I just carry it in the basement.

I'm curious why it's important to have something a couple feet taller than the coach. I was thinking if the ladder was maybe 5 or 6 feet tall it would allow you to reach the top of the coach and that would be good!

I carry a "Little Giant" so I can get on my roof if I must. It is very stable as a 7' step ladder and fits in the basement. You most likely have a build in ladder to the roof so you could go with the 7' step Camping World sells, which folds to a long 4"x 4" about 8' long.

Short answer Xtend & Climb 785P, much more sturdy than those cheaper telescoping ladders.

That allows you to have good support when you step off the ladder onto the roof! Same thing when you start to get back down!

Jinxtv-
The easiest way to search iRV2 is to use the "powered by Google" box, which is below the photo banner on each page. Leave the irv2.com button selected. It creates a Google search of this form:
<search terms> site:irv2.com
I have Google set as the default search engine for my computer's browsers. So, I just enter this on Google to find posts about ladders:
ladder site:irv2.com
Results for this search are at this link. Current count is 7,420 posts with the term "ladder" in them. Some of those are clearly about portable ladders, choosing, using and storage.
Our coach has a permanent ladder, so I can get on the roof on that. On the road, I carry a three-step ladder in a storage bay. If I need more than that, I borrow one from a neighbor or the RV park. I use a platform ladder at home. The platform is at the six-foot level, so I can work comfortably along the roofline of the coach.

7' GP Logistics. My Bay Star has a rear ladder. I have a folding type ladder, but found it awkward and heavy for storage in the motor home. The GP ladder is so compact for storage, but gives me plenty of height for just about anything I would need while traveling in the motor home.

how does this post really help anyone? If you don't have input, don't share. If you have value to add, then share that part, but telling someone how to use google is pretty petty!

I carry a 7' folding double sided ladder. It folds to 3.5 inches by 4.5 inches, and fits easily in a storage bay, or some folks will mount a 5" square vinyl fence post hung under the rig. Mine is mounted on the back wall of the storage compartments with a couple of "L" brackets.

This is the one I bought. When looking at these ladders as a means to get on the roof, take note of the difference between extended length vs reach.

I also have the ladder in SargeW post for small jobs.

You want a ladder long enough to get you onto the roof, Roof problems are endemic to motorhomes and need frequent inspection and resealing. I use a telescoping ladder to reach the roof and for other tasks such as windshield cleaning. Rule of thumb buying a ladder is you need a ladder that will reach 3’ higher that the roof My motorhome is 9’3” high, I bought a ladder that reaches 12’. To avoid scratching the paint and reduce slipping, I used a piece of foam pipe insulation over the top rung.
