Wheel Help!

OK, guys and gals. Here is another issue I need to overcome. My 2004 Winnebago Sightseer has a Workhorse P32 chassis. I have no spare and I don't want to go on a trip without one. The wheel is a Maxion W0002398. I am having an incredibly difficult time tracking one of these boogers down. I have found a couple but the prices are gouged due to them being sold by an RV parts seller. I refuse to pay 300-400 for a freaking steel wheel. For that kind of money I could probably find Alcoa wheels to fit it. Any help would be appreciated.

From a google search a Maxion W0002398 is a wheel simulator. If you have simulator then there is a steel rim behind it. I maybe wrong, but aren't all 19.5's the same??

I assume you have a 19.5x6 or 19.5x7.75 dependinmg on which chassis you have. A google search will yield a bunch of suppliers. If you want to save a few bucks you might try one of the RV salvage yards. Here's one of the most well known https://colawrv.com/

New wheels appear to run in the $200 range.

Most of us travel without any spare at all and some carry an unmounted spare. Almost any of the roadside assistance providers can mount the unmounted spare on the side of the road with no problem.

When we got a flat on the coach, I called AAA and they would only provide a tow. They would not allow a tire change on the side of the interstate. I kept one of the old tires (6yr old and 12500 miles) but never did put it in the rig. I would need a tire guy to change it anyway so may as well get a tow to a new tire place.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This seems like good advice, to me.

I believe that closer inspection may show that the Maxion part number you're referencing is not the actual wheel on which a tire is mounted. I believe that Maxion makes "Wheel Simulators" which is a fancy name for a hubcap-like device that is attached over the top of a steel wheel to enhance appearance. It's not a structural part of the wheel assembly (wheel and tire).

Take care,
Stu

Can you post a pic of the wheel, the part number, and the tire size?

Different lug types, different lug sizes, different bolt pattern, different offset, different rim width, aluminum or steel plus different manufacturers.

This thread has some more information.

It says Maxion was indeed a wheel supplier. Has a different part number though, W1000011.

All the 2004 Sightseer models came standard with a spare and the tools needed to change it. I figure you know that it has been removed but if not, have you made sure it's not hanging under the rear end?

Ah, I suspect the problem is finding a Maxion 19.5 inch wheel, most P32 steel wheels were built by Accuride, then in 2002 or 2003 Workhorse switched to Maxion as their wheel supplier for the last couple of years of P32 production. My 2002 P32 chassis Safari Trek built in late 01 came with Accuride wheel number 32069 , I bought an identical looking spare rim from a local junkyard from for $50 that came off an older P32 with 1990 date code dry rotted tires.

Having worked in this business, I can tell you that usually the lowest level mechanics do the tire work - and some are not so good. If you're lucky they will just mar up your nice aluminum wheel while dismounting/mounting the tire. If you're unlucky they can damage you coach or worse. Doing tire work on the side of the road (and at night and in foul weather) is not the best environment for quality work.

I would much rather have the road guy just remove the flat and install "my" spare (if you are unable to that yourself), then later at mu convenience, have a shop with the proper tools and supervision make the repair on my flat.
