When pulling into a rest area...

40 ft class A, do you go down the road marked “cars and RV’s” or the road marked “trucks”?

Cars and RV’s was not class A friendly where I pulled in... is this the same everywhere? Should a 40ft class A always just go down the truck section?

As a side note, lots of roads and pull in areas say “No trucks.”

Is a 40 ft 30,000lb rv a truck? Should all these roads and stops be avoided?

All the rest areas that I have used say "Cars" in one direction, and "Trucks & RVs" in the other direction.

"Car's and RV's" unless I can see there is a problem in advance and there is ample spaces in the truck section.

Truck drivers are mandated to stop due to hours driven and so I don't want to take a truck drivers space. Those guys and gals need to take their breaks.

I have seen both signs in different states. If the Cars & RVs area look good enough I use it, if not I use the truck area but we normally don't linger long. Just long enough for a potty break and lunch.

No more so than a "civilian" engaged in long distance driving. Having used truck stops and rest areas for breaks over the past 25 years or so, I do occasionally run into a trucker with a sense of entitlement, like they have more of a right to be using public resources since they are making a living out there. But that is the exception, and I try to just get along. Now with a 40 foot diesel coach, I will be spending more time in said environments. I respect the folks that ply our highways moving goods around, all too often over-worked and under-paid.

But if I need a break I'm using the facilities as I see fit - whether it's funded by fuel taxes, tolls or patronage of a commercial facility.

The point being, anybody piloting a multi ton projectile should be know "when to say when," and have access to a place to call it quits for a few hours; I don't buy into a narrative that commercial drivers are any more important than a private coach operator

Sure. Unless otherwise marked.

Should it be posted as "no overnight" and a Trooper knocks on your door, explain that you are unsafe to drive without a nap but you aren't going to spend the entire night. Because you're not, right?

But if enforcement saw your rig at 4 pm and it's now almost midnight, the officer might think you've no plans of leaving any time soon and get ever so stern with you.

Some folks don't like to drive at night. I'm not in a 40' Class A with a toad, plus winds are generally lower at night, so I'm good to eat/nap/sleep in a rest area in daytime. I'll be gone by dusk, so I'm not "overnight."

I've seen signs for cars & RVs one way and trucks the other on a couple of occasions. Unless I can clearly see that the RV spots are open and long enough for my 38' MH & toad I go to the truck side. I'm 50+' and often the RV spots are too short. Never been a problem, but like the other poster I don't linger. There just long enough for bathroom break, coffee, maybe lunch, and walk around safety check.

I'm in an RV, so I go where the RV sign says to go.
The rest of the incoming traffic should do the same. Its that simple.

This person did what appears to be a very up-to-date report (dated April 12, 2021) on the states that allow overnighting at their rest stops and their restrictions (it appears that about half the states do not allow it at all) ...remember, though, this is a "civilian" compiling the list so it's still your responsibility to confirm its accuracy before using it as the "official truth" but it is an interesting guide to get you started:

I go for the truck side.

Don't want to get in a situation where I could be forced to back out due to tight turns, low tree limbs, etc.

Truck side works for semis so it works for me & my 40 foot bus plus toad.

If I see semis stacked up on the ramp leading to the rest area I'll keep going unless me or hounds urgently need a break. Of course its best to stop early so urgent breaks not needed.
