which toyo tire for drive and steer?
My 2019 Entegra Vision will hit 6 years old and 36,000 miles this spring. The tires are all Goodyear G670 245R70/19.5. I will be replacing at least the steer tires for peace of mind. I have already decided on Toyo's but have 2 questions that I'd like input on please:
1) Just steer tires or all 6? It seems that the safety dangers of a critical tire failure are higher on the steer tires. I will replace the steers but thinking about having the rears just inspected - in and out - and wait another couple of years to replace those. Thoughts?
2) I see most people select the M154's but others have used the M143's or M156's in this size. Which tire would give the best safety aspect for the steer tires? (grip in turns and least likely to blow out)
Thanks.

I don't know of any shop that would be willing to breakdown a 6-7 year old tire in order to look at the inside. The odds of messing up a bead are prohibitive. It would also cost at least $100 a tire.
I, personally, would replace all six. But, replacing the fronts now and the rears in a year or two is a viable option.

Many Toyo commercial tires like the M154 22.5" tires on our class A are all position tires making them a solid choice for front and rear tires on our coach. We have done just the front tires as well and replace the rears as needed too, although if you could get a good deal on them it would be wise to replace them all with 6 years on current set. Last 2 sets of Toyo M154 tires have provided great service life, plenty of traction, and a smooth quiet ride, we will continue to buy Toyos in the future.

My Opinion
#1. At 6 yrs old...based on Date Codes...I replace the Steers. I replace drives/tags at 7 years. I agree with Bent JM on the rears irt inspection...but I'd just run them another year unless you have a reason to believe they might be damaged, as in you know they were overloaded, run underinflated, or hit something serious, etc.
#2. I don't know about your size tire. I have M144 for my 315's. Just choose a model that is good for highway use (not for low speed in town) and is all position and you'll be fine.

Just replaced the Michelins on the front at about 32K miles with M154s and so far they have been great!

IMHO - not a tire engineer
Look at the tread patterns on the 144, 154 and 156 tires. Toyo reduced the tread design from 5 rows of tread blocks and 4 groves on the 154 to 4 rows of tread blocks and 3 groves on the 156. The 144 has a similar pattern to the 154 configuration with the addition of sipes on the exterior tread rows.
It appears that the 144 will give better performance in the wet (better channeling of the water to reduce hydroplaning) and the 156 will perform better in the dry (more rubber on the road surface).

Note that Toyo is no longer making the M154 as the M156 is the new tire replacing it. I just just put 6 M156’s on my rig. Looking at Toyo specs, says they are direct replacement for Michelins, including ROM’s so odometer does not need to be reset. M154 and 156 tires are all position tires.
