Plenty of times! I ran my motorcycle out of gas in a really desolate stretch of highway in southern Utah, and a fellow stopped to load my bike into his truck and take me to the nearest town. “Pay it forward”, he said.

There was the RV shop that stopped to fix my trailer lights as I was headed out on a Saturday morning, a Ford dealership in Scottsbluff, NE, who got me in and back on the road in time to make it to a funeral, and a tire shop in Idaho Falls on a Sunday afternoon. The shop manager at Little America, WY, cautioned me that his guys had no experience or parts for the little bitty Powerstroke in my F350, but he still fixed my truck quickly and efficiently. If you know I-80 in Wyoming you know Little America is a long way from anywhere!

There are just a few of the opposite examples, too, but I would like to forget them.

It’s not just emergency situations, either. I don’t know how many times passersby have stopped to help me load plywood and things into my truck at a Home Depot. It is just the friendly nature of ordinary people.
