Whole wall slideouts

I am considering purchasing a new motorhome. Several of the ones we like have a whole-wall slide on the drivers side. Question: does any one have or know an owner that has had problems with these long slideouts?
Thanks for your help!!

About three years ago we were staying in Maggie Valley, NC. One of our neighbors at the RV park had a 45' MH with full-wall slideout. He got ready to leave and the slide would not go in. He had three different mobile techs out there over three days before they finally got it to go in!

There no more problematic than any other slide. Someone will always have a horror story. Just about every brand offers them.

You're right Don! Didn't mean to imply that all of them are this troublesome. Also, the manufacturers have more experience in designing them now!

Joe, I wasn't referring to you, but my guess is there will be a lot of posts that will be critical of them, especially first generation models.

During 5+ years of use we have only had one issue. One of the motors became unplugged (likely due to not being totally connected during construction).

Yes, we had ongoing problems with the seals. Everything else with the slide has worked perfectly. The seals have now been repaired.

Heres a link to a thread I started today, the subject being how Fleetwood took care of me above and beyond my expectations on the repair of the seals.

Long read... but good story!

Good Luck!

Just look at a Newmar New Aire with FWS with 6500 miles. While inspecting the storage looked under the Wood Floor on the FWS and noticed the steel or nylon rollers were leaving Heavy indentations into the bottom of the wood floor. Too big and heavy IMHO

We have had a full slide in our Ventana LE for almost 6 years now. The only problems we have had were caused by our mistakes. Contacted Newmar the first time and got detailed directions with photographs and easily got things working again just fine. I would buy another full slide by Newmar in a heartbeat.

I'm in my 2nd coach with a full wall slide, no issues. Anything mechanical can break, even a little slide. If there is any greater risk of failure having a FWS, it is well worth it because they really open up the floor plan and create an amazing amount of space inside.
