Why did my Allegro Bus body break?

Hi,
right now my Allegro Bus 43 QGP is winterized and parked in gated storage in Richmond BC Canada (has never been colder than 23 degrees). When I checked my bus this morning I realized that there is a crack under my bedroom slider on drivers site. That was a big shock and will cost me $3000 in Bodyshop. What could be the reason? Please see images attached. Thanks a lot.

PS: Sorry, but some images got uploaded in a wrong angle.

I would check to see if the slide is riding on the frame when closed. If no other cause, and last resort, is the frame causing stress, which you can determine by by making a cut through the frame to see if it closes the gap. Ughhhhhh

Have you checked the other side, inside and the roof to see if there is any other cracking? That does not look like a tear it looks like a stress crack by the way it is separated at the beginning. A tear typically does not stay separated.

I unfortunately can't give you an answer as to why, however go walk around any used RV lot or campground and you will see countless cracks extending from slide out corners. Mine included.

That's a pretty common point for the crack to appear. The repair is to cut out the crack and add a piece of color match moulding from the corner of the side to the bottom of the wall. Normally, less than $1000. This fixes the crack and provides some stress relief to the area.

Call Tiffin Service as you have a 10 year sidewall guarantee and may be eligible for some relief on this.

The only advice I can offer is dont have it fixed until you determine the cause or it will probably come back.

Ditto what Roger says. You didn't specify the age of your coach, but it very well could be covered under warranty. Those corner stress cracks do show up from time to time.

At a Country Coach rally last year one shop owner said it was due to the side force on the chassis from dragging the tag in corners. It exerts a lot of side force. The cure is to drill the end of the crack and cover with a trim piece painted to match.

Sorry for your luck but as mentioned its not uncommon for those coaches.
I had a 2010 bus just like yours.
If you haven't checked for cracks on the roof rails you need to do that as well, another problem area.
Also the wet bay floor was wood and had a lot of them rotting out.
Also the slide floors had some issues on some of the coaches.
Not trying to bring u down just a heads up, have those checked as well. Tiffin was covering the repairs for these problems as well.

I see your coach is a 2011 and as other current or former Tiffin owners have already posted, this is a fairly common failure on coaches of that era.

My 2009 Phaeton did the same thing. The proper fix is to make a vertical relief cut, cover that with a vertical strip, and then paint to match. In my case they added a matching vertical strip on the other side of the slide for cosmetic reasons (see the attached photos). This work was done in CA and covered by Tiffin.

I would recommend sending photos to don.boyd@tiffinmotorhomes.com. He has the authority to approve the repair and recommendations as to where you should have the work done.

Looks like a typical stress crack - found on pretty much every manufacturer that builds a unit with a slideout. Many times the hole for the slideout is cut with square corners - that's where the stress crack starts. If they go to the trouble of putting a decent radius on the corner when they cut it then there's less chance of a stress crack, but they can still occur.

Tiffin had to replace the sidewalls on my coach. The foreman in that shop added the supports shown in the attached photo, which is what Tiffin should have done when it was manufactured.
