Will my generator overheat?

2012 Thor ace 29.1

We are traveling through eastern Oregon and Nevada in a couple weeks

I looked underneath and do not see any heat shield on the fuel line nor any heat shield near the generator and there is no vent in my door

I plan to take it for a test drive this weekend with the generator running

However after reading all these threads about the generator overheating I'm concerned we will have issues

I just came through Nevada and had my generator running most of the time driving to keep it comfortable inside while the temp outside was 117. I had no problems.

Run it, it was made to run like that, I am not saying it wont overheat, I don't have a Thor, but I live here in the Desert South West, and run my gen set all the time, in 100 plus temps, I do not have any heat shields, never heard of any heat shields on the fuel line etc...

Thanks for the replies. There is a pretty big thread on this forum for Thor where the generator is right behind the driver side and apparently there can be overheating issues. Apparently the combination of a very long fuel line and proximity to the engine causes an error code 36. I think this is pretty specific to this type of RV in the placement of the generator. However I am curious if just a handful of people experience it or if the problem is long solved and not an issue

Well I posted over there I guess that was a better place to post since that is where the issues described I was also hoping to catch other Thor owners who have not had the issue as well as the ones who have. Thank you all for the replies

I had a 2015 ACE 29.2 - ran the generator from Md to Maine a few summers ago without issues. My genset was in the rear - Thor moved the generators to the rear because of the overheating issues - i.e. the door would warp/melt. If your generator is in the back, its probably fine. Thor did, I believe, have a door vent solution to keep the heat in the generator space down.....

best

I have a 2006 Damon Daybreak, run every year through the Mojave desert, never had a problem. Mine is drivers side bay about 1/4 way from the front.

I have run my Onan 7500 watt diesel generator 24/7 during an LSU football weekend in early September when the day time temp is 90 F and the humidity is 70% and never had a problem with overheating. Is your generator propane, gasoline or diesel? Telling the forum which type of generator you have will get better responses.

Keep in mind the Diesel Gen sets are water cooled and Gas Air/oil cooled.

This was an issue if running the generator on my Mirada when it was hot outside. I added two vents to my generator cover and never had any more problems.

Cool! Literally...

Are those vents facing forward to push air into the compartment when running, or pointing backwards?

Any issue with water getting in? I am assuming not as the gen is pretty much exposed to road spray as is from underneath the coach.

Thanks for the info!

The vents point backward so they will tend to suck air out while traveling.

These are stainless watercraft vents (skidoo or something) . You can also get plastic and paint them. I got them on e-bay. the link is in the article.

Run it and down worry. I live in South Louisiana and during football season, I will run my generator 48+ hours straight in 95+ degree temp. Generators are designed to run in extreme conditions.
