Winne, 02, workhorse, turn signal/4-way failure

Bauschmann49 here, a wannabe CON-VID 19 dress-a-like.

My turn signals and of course 4-way signals just quite working. I am on the road and will try to repair myself. But I will need your help.

With a good meter I traced DC power through the fuse and the flashers. I suspect the control wire junction in the steering column. The reason for this is the 4-way function quit a couple of days before the turn signals quit working. The days leading up to the 4-way stopping, the push down, pop up off/on switch controlling the 4-way would sometimes work and not, creating the need to pull (assist) the switch out manually before it would work. Today both turn signals and 4-way do not work.

I have removed all covers on the steering column except the cover that surrounds the ignition key. There must be some way to remove the round plastic collar that surrounds the ignition key entry so I can slip the one top cover partly held in place until you can slip it over the key entry point.

Thanks ahead of time for any information. I will try to call a Chevy chassis repair place to try to get some help there.

Ok, I'll try ; chassis battery disconnected , park brake set ?

The " Ignition lock " the key assembly probably has to be removed to get the bezel off , this in the case of a Chrysler product ( that I've got experience on ) would require having the ignition in the ACC position and looking up under the bezel for a release pin to pop the lock assembly out.

I'm self isolating so I'll do an online search to see if Workhorse uses the same method.

Key in ACC , is to prevent anyone without a key from removing the lock.

I had an intermitent problem with my turn signals on a 2001 Workhorse chassis. I traced it to a large connector at the bottom of the steering shaft at the floor. I found the wire for the turn signals had backed out of the connector. I pushed the pin back into the connector and they worked.

The connector was loosely tied to the shaft with a zip tie and was mostly supported by the wire bundle. It would be stressed when hitting a bump or being kicked when I moved my feet. I raised it higher on the shaft to provide strain relief and secured it there. I haven't had a problem since.

p.s. I also started to attack the problem at the steering wheel.
