We have a 36 foot 2002 Journey.
We love it.
What year and engine?

We had a 2010 40L which we put on 75,000 almost repair free miles. It was a wonderful coach.

The Journey has always been a solid and reasonably priced diesel pusher.

Winnebago had a great lineup back in the 2000-2015 or so.
Journey / Meridian
Ellipse /Tour
Vectra /Horizon
I have no idea why they changed things like they did.
Even my 2020 Horizon reminds me of a glorified Forza.
If it didn’t have the Grand Tour Chassis I wouldn’t have bought it.
They lost it when they stopped the Grand Tour and Ellipse Ultra in 2017.
I think the New 2022 Journey is not going to live up to that previous lineup either. The largest new Journey is 41 ft without a tag.
I would like to see what that will be priced.

I think that's why they bought Newmar, to fill in their diesel lineup.

Right about 2018 they got a new young CEO and he immediately moved the corporate offences to the twin cities. He then bought Country Coach and started to revamp their whole operation even talking about canceling their Grand National Rally. Well, covid stopped that for a while, but I wonder what the whiz kid is doing now.
Oh yeah, he also purchased Chris Craft.

Not sure what year the OP is talking about. The older Journeys have recently caught my eye as a small platform with a decent ability to tow a trailer and large tanks. I'm talking older, though--2006 or so. One of the real advantages to me would be the low height due to the basement air conditioner.
How bad is it to access the engine on these things with the basement air being apparently right there? How well does the basement air work as an A/C?

DirtRider,
The "Journey" is no different, in just about any length, '01 through about '07 or '08, to gain access to the motor, based on rear radiator cooled. The basement A/C has really little to do with access to that motor. Our coach is an '04 Itasca Horizon 36GD with the CAT C-7 330HP and it's been a great coach in the 10 years and 97K miles that we've owned and operated it.
It's basically an Aunt to a Journey. The hierarchy of the rank structure back then was, in the Winnebago lineup, the Vectra was the ranking diesel and the Journey was the step down. But the sister ships were the Itasca Horizon and the step down, was the Meridian. Soooooo, if you can't find a Journey in the years mentioned, then a Meridian is basically an identical unit. It's very, very similar to the old Chevy vs GMC thing.
As for how well the basement A/C does, if you read on here the various threads and posts concerning that unit, about 99.9999% of the folks that have had one or still do, are very satisfied with them. And, because it's a reverse operating unit, meaning it's also a heat pump, that side of it works great too. There are a few that say it's louder than a roof air. But, by and large, the vast majority will pick a basement A/C unit over a roof mount every time.
