Winterizing the Residential Ice Maker

This had me concerned all last winter because I knew I didn't do a real good job of it. Everything was OK this summer. I just finished the first time for this year, we may go camping some later on, and wanted an easy way to blow air through the line.
As some of you have posted, just make a short pigtail wire with spade connectors on one end and a regular 120V plug on the other end. My problem was I couldn't get to the spade connector to get it off the valve and there was no way you were ever going to get spade connectors back on.
After I worked with it for a while, I realized it wouldn't make any difference how the valve was mounted, or if it was mounted at all, so I took it off the frig. frame and just let it hang loose behind the frig.. I had plenty of wire and water line, now it's easy to pull the wires, plug my pigtail on, plug into 120V for about 10 seconds. You can hear when the water is gone and it starts blowing air. This is something that might work for you.

I take the easy button approach, and just leave the air compressor hooked up and go in to watch the football game. The refrig will try to make ice on it's on schedule, and when it does it purges the line.

Hook the air compressor up and when blowing out the rest of the lines blow out the water in door dispenser. Then like KIAWAH says let the ice cube maker cycle a couple of time and it done. By blowing out the water in door dispenser first there will be very little water left in the system.
