Wireless water hose control

lately I've read several posts about a water line breaking while away from a coach and the problems that obviously come from it. Most warn that every time you leave your coach to turn off the water at the main inlet. Not sure where the majority falls on this thought but got me wondering about a wireless shut off valve. What say you?

Years ago I remember walking with my boys in a blm park and coming upon a trailer with water running out of EVERYWHERE! No-one home... All we could do was turn the faucet off.
Not sure if wireless would help... Just turn off the water when you're gone.

that's very doable now.
Put a devices like this on the water line:
https://www.domeha.com/z-wave-water-main-shut-off-valve
connect that via Wireless to a Z-Wave hub.

Use a "RV Automation" system to add the voice recognition element (or timed, or upon event, or from a calendar event) to shut off / turn on the valve.
Or just use your smartphone to connect to the automation system and click to shut the valve off.

I've never understood the perceived need to turn the water off when leaving the MH. I wouldn't do the same thing in a house, why do it in an RV? Turning off the water means we couldn't leave the washer running nor would the ice maker fill the ice bin while we were out. Our MH has PEX plumbing with plastic screw-on fittings, not the crimped kind. In the >8 years we've had the coach, we've never had a fitting come apart or a PEX line break.

We were in Quartzsite and got a call from our RV park. They said they shut off our water as it was flowing out of our coach.

Discovered the Pex fitting broke on the back of one of our toilets. It was Sunday and the only hardware store in Quartzsite was closed, of course. Glad we have two toilets.

I now carry a bunch of Sharkbite fittings and also always shutoff the water when we are away.

Also had a water hose burst one time so for me it's just preventive.

In our house we had a line break that went into a toilet and it ran for several hours flooding the entire house. $32,000 to repair the damage.

However we don't turn off the water at our house while travelling as the yard sprinklers have to run and our kids plus grandkids use the house occasionally while we are out on the road.

Our 'home' was 1 yr old and while sleeping one night a plastic screw fitting on water heater hot out let loose and water ran for HOURS flooding kitchen/living room/slide outs and 3 CG sites
Found broken fitting.....part of it
It was cracked and finally gave way
Up until that time in 2008 had always hooked up to city water supply when available and up until hitting the road FT had never used a pressure regulator

Had Watts Reg set for 50#.....but $0.50 fitting caused $6000 in damages/costs and 2 weeks for repairs

Since then I don't use city water for anything but filling my fresh water tank
Pump gets turned off at night/when we leave RV
Easy to flip the switch...even we 'not dressed' for visitors

Best luck on your theory of 'why should I'

Soon after we got the current coach we were on a trip, hooked up to water etc. We were headed out for the day, would be gone all day. Closed the motorhome door and got in the car but one of us forgot something so I went back into the motorhome. The toilet was continually flushing and would have done this until we got back. I pulled the fuse to get it to stop and fixed it when I got back, there were 2 wires that had made connection on the control switch (and after market install the PO had done) causing the flushing.

Since then I had to replace the toilet control module that does have a fail safe stopping it from flushing after a certain number of flushed, I think 10.

That being said we usually don't turn off the water on the motorhome. We do turn off the water in the house when going on vacation.

I always turn the water off at home when leaving for days or in the rv if I am going to be site seeing all day. I added a master shut off valve for each so it is an easy turn of the ball valve to cut it off. Better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks for the replies on this. Seems that I'm in the camp of why not shut it off, extra security, or just in case security.

I'm looking at the unit below. Seems to get very good reviews and has a lot of functionality like a programmable thermostat. It's not freeze proof so I would set it up in the heated wet bay during winter since we full time.

We always shut the house water off at the valve before the meter when away overnight.

We came home from dinner on our seventh wedding anniversary and I thought I heard water running. I opened the door to the basement and it was raining down there. One of the rubber water hoses to the washing machine had developed a pinhole at the bend and it was squirting a thin steam of water about 10' across the basement. W knew it hadn't been running more than three hours but it was a mess. Lots of papers ruined but no actual flooding. Because the carpet absorbed most of the water...

So now I turn off that valve when away overnight to limit any potential massive damage (and I know the valve moves easily, which it did not do the first time) and I don't worry about it. And I now replace both washer rubber hoses with the steel-braid lines every five years.

Once we were out of state and my sister called to tell me they were headed to my house because they saw a news report that many people on my street had suffered fractured water meters and massive flooding. The City had induced a "water hammer" when flushing hydrants (which is very easy to do on old water systems) and it broke a bunch of water meters, including the homes on either side of us. We were fine because I had the valve shut off but it may have been a different story if we were coincidentally not away overnight.

It takes less than a minute to do so why not? And in the house if you hear water running when you turn it back on you know you probably have a leaking toilet valve you should fix.

I was thinking of the same issue recently. My tentative solution is to use a 12 volt water valve parallel wired with the on board pump. Turn on the water switch, and both the pump and valve are active, but of course shore water pressure will prevent the pump from running. Turn off the switch, and no water to the coach at all. Thus is a cheap solution and the valve would be in the wet bay.

Not a big revaluation .They have high flow preventers even at Menards an Ace that go right after shut off or part of newish 1\4 turn ball valves. Those are the best every time I needed a isolation in emergency They crapped the bed. They match normal sink , washing machine and toilet hoses.Won't prevent every mishap.
AKA drunk relative flopping on toilet.Breaks toilet hose off water squirting on ceiling . I run in before she even gets her pants up.Handle breaks off valve. She then falls in huge real ficus tree dirt everywhere. Christmas eve luckily small town Ace as open for about another hour.Good Times man. Now I run a longer toilet hose.
Some good ideas in thread so far.

I see this post is old.
I have been toying with this for 2 years now. I want wifi so I can turn it off if I forget. I live in my year round 3/4 time. And especially during winter I want to be able to turn off if I forget.

Did you set something up? I was also looking at this unit.
