Wiring diagram?
Can someone provide a wiring diagram for this 50A male to 30A female adapter? I know what it's used for - I just want to see how they connect four pins to three.

I haven't seen a diagram , but only one of the legs of the 50 amp side is connected to the 30 amp side , so actually there is more power available to the RV through the adapter than from a 30 amp pedestal plug in ,and they rely on the RV's on board 30 amp circuit breaker to prevent overloads.

Yeap, as Skip says. Each of the two hot pins on the 50A male can carry 50A, so just one of them is connected to the 30A hot. The neutral and the ground on the 50A make are connected to the corresponding terminals on the 30A female.

So anyone using this adapter is actually plugging into a full 50 amp source and is therefore relying on the coach electrical system to prevent drawing too much current thru the 30A power cord... Sounds potentially dangerous.

It is. According to Code it's not permitted as there needs to be a 30 amp breaker or fuse protecting the coach cable on the line (not load) side.

Can you provide a link to this code? One can plug a 1A appliance into a 15A circuit in the motorhome, with no fuse/breaker on the line side of the cord - the protection is inside the appliance, just as it is in the RV.

The protection is in the 30 amp breaker inside the pedestal. A 30 amp breaker anywhere in the circuit will protect the circuit just fine. Not to worry.
Code is OK with them and there are thousands and thousands of them in use all over the world I would guess.
Be happy don't worry

I can't tell which cord you're referring to, but my 30A power cable is NOT a 50 amp cord. Nor is the dogbone (I presume). As someone else noted, relying on a downstream 30A breaker is NOT the way the NEC defines protection. If I ever have to use the 50A source, I will take it upon myself to watch the loads.

Yes, it is - thank you. I saw that in the link provided earlier. I could have figured that out with my ohmmeter! but I didn't know before that the 50A outlet is actually TWO separate 50A circuits.
