wont start with key switch

just bought a 2004 kountry star with a 330-cat diesel it won't start using the ignition switch, I can start it by turning key switch on and then jumping it on starter solenoid. I thought ignition switch could be bad so replaced it and key set still no luck.
Only thing i did to it was clean all the corrosion of house batteries

Thanks in advance

Time to find a chassis wiring diagram for your coach - and a house wiring diagram while your at it - you’ll need them both at some point or another.

Take a look in the Files section above. What you need just might be in there.

You problem is probably the starter relay ( I've replaced mine twice ) type of relay and location are chassis manufacturer specific .

The relay takes a signal from the ignition switch and trans controller , and will only pass power to the starter solenoid , when it sees the transmission is in neutral.

What chassis is your coach built on ?

It’s your relay between key and starter. Look around on top of frame rail beside motor generally on passenger side.

Ok Freightliner chassis , with Cat engine.

When my starter relay failed Freightliner sent me the pdf below , with the part description and cross reference . Your coach being years newer may not take the same part. That may take a call to Freightliner to confirm.

My relay is mounted on a plate on the outside of the passenger side frame rail behind the dual wheels ; only visible from under the coach . Picture below .

Almost sure this rig has a start relay... If you can find a wiring diagram that will tell you if there is a relay. If no diagram available then you may be able to trace it out with a wire tracer... You can get a good one from Amazon.

You need to go back to the battery terminals and look for a small gauge wire that got left off or placed on a negetive terminal.

Also follow them to check for a dirty inline fuse connection.

Does your transmission panel light up ? If not, that power wire may be on the battery terminal. No trans controller, no start.

Always best to have more sets of eyes looking at a problem .
