Would you run the generator?

I’m currently in Florida in one of the swanky Class A only parks my gas 35 footer barely qualifies for. This is the 3rd time we’ve come here and it’s always been an amazing stay. We got in this afternoon and set up, turned on the AC’s and left the cats to hold down the fort while we got some groceries. We were gone about two hours and the first thing we noticed was that our LED interior light strip was off. It runs off a 110v adapter.

I checked inside - all breakers were fine. Checked the pedestal and sure enough the meter was off. Turns out about a dozen sites went dark while we were out. The very nice Prevost next to us has their generator running, its whisper quiet. My Onan-chainsaw-5500 is as obnoxious as can be.

The staff went home for the evening and security is running around like ants saying they can’t fix it and they can’t move us. We paid $2,500 to be here for a month. So I just turned on the generator despite it being explicitly against the rules because it’s over 80 outside.

What would you do? I’ve only been RVing a year and have never had this happen before. (For reference I talked to all my neighbors first and they were very nice and understanding).

This constitutes an emergency situation. Generators are appropriate. Be safe though. CO is always a concern.

Like yourself, if I needed it, I'd have my generator running!

I'd also be asking for a discount in the rate, depending how long the power is out!

I would run the generator also. you paid for the spot with electricity and if there is no power, keep that gen. running until you get some. The guy next to you may not like the noise any more than you will like the fumes from his Aqua Hot blowing on your patio, but that's just life.

Thanks everyone - I feel better knowing the vets would do the same thing. I edited my post because for some reason I typed ‘3rd year in a row’ instead of ‘3rd time’.

Maybe the CO is seeping in haha.

It's hot out - everyone has their windows closed.

And, if you think your generator is loud - try listening to your neighbor's (well, maybe not the prevost) 3 A/C's running...

Let them complain to the management - ask for the boondocking rate!

Or, if the neighbors complain - see if you can sleep in their rig for the night so you can leave your generator off.

Run the generator. Park needs to reimburse you for the days of stay that the electricity is out.

For $2500 I would think they would have a gen to power the park. Just curious what do you get for that fee.

I would run the gen for sure.

No worries run that generator they can’t hear it from inside their coach anyway.

If you don't run the generator then the health and well being of your cats would be in jeopardy and someone would report you to the SPCA. So you have no choice.
Besides as other have said, it night and there is no power and it's HOT. Run the generator and and calculate how much they owe you for supplying power that you already paid for. Remember gas cost more than the electricity.

If park could not provide power I paid for, run genny and ask for a refund fund for fuel.

If I don't like NOISE, I remove my hearing aids. Works for me, ask my better half.
