Exclamation Xantrex RC/GS (Remote Control/Gen Start) error light (red)

A few things I’ve noticed.

1. It keeps showing my house batteries at different charge levels (full, 1/2, 1/3, full, almost full, etc).

2. My inverter shows a single red light occasionally, which means on the list of light messages; low voltage.

3. If I unplug the phone looking cords for 5 seconds and plug them back in, it seems to invert fine for a few minutes before the red light on the Xantrex display comes back on.

4. It shows System Status: Lobat/Start chrg (not sure how to get it to start charging, it usually just does it, the batteries won’t charge with the generator on)

5. And my fridge woke turn on to power or gas 🤦*♂️🤷*♂️

Your batteries sound low or dead.

Possibly, but they charged up completely this last week, and last night as our first night not connected to sure power, we ran the furnace last night for a few hours just off the batteries, and for most of today they were charging/charged back up. Is it possible they just died on me randomly?

Batteries don't just randomly die but there may be an intermittent problem with the charging system.

Recommend first checking batteries. Check voltage of each individual battery and use a hydrometer to check the electrolyte level of charge.

If the batteries look good check the charge while plugged in. If batteries are low the inverter should be bulk charging initially and eventually go to float charge. Check your manual as to what voltage you should see through the charging cycle, mine has 3 stages.

Last year, prior to a trip I checked the batteries and all was good. Then while on the trip my inverter started to flash and I checked the batteries and one was dead. Replaced all 4 batteries.

Maybe a battery connector is corroded. They can just get a dark grey coating that you really won't notice. Clean them all up. The typical green and white powder mess is from acid fumes, the blackish coating is straight electrolysis.

So, after checking the batteries found out they were no good.

Bought new ones and replaced both.

That still didn’t fix the problem, however.

Found out it was an ignition relay in the box back by the engine. Swapped it with the A/C Relay since I won’t need that for a few days until I find a few more relays to replace the one and keep a few on hand.
