Your opinion on FMCA?
We are considering joining FMCA and just wanted to get your opinions as to whether it is worthwhile. I don't need to belong to any more "clubs" just to say I'm a member and to get one of those big plastic eggs! Thanks for your input!

We joined FMCA.... twice.
The first time was when we bought our new DP and then again two years ago.
We let it lapse both times because we would come to the end of the year and feel we had really gotten no value for the membership. Not a big deal but we just didn't see the need.
I think the most attractive thing about their membership is the emergency medical evacuation service but it wasn't enough to keep us.

I've heard that you can get a nice discount on tires thru them. If your in need it could be a great bargin.

I'm with Rick, we joined twice, mainly because I didn't research it.
We found a couple of the local chapters and plan on going to thier rallys which is the best way to get to know them.
I guess the first time I expected them to knock down my door to ask me to join.
I looked over the site and located the lists of chapters then requested info for each, I got the e-mail back the next day with a schedule of events I could go to.
If the meetings are as friendly as the e-mails I will reup for next year.

That's the only reason I joined was for the discount on Michelin tires. I ended up buying a set of Toyo's for less than the FMCA discounted price on Michelin's.

Joe....For us it's kind of like Good Sam. Do we really have to have it.....no. We stay members of both for the occasional discount and the magazines. The Good Sam magazine is pretty thin, but FMCA puts out a nice magazine. We also will attend an occasional FMCA rally which are usually pretty nice.
If I really had to watch my pennies, I would probably pass, but otherwise we get some value out of the membership.

I've been a member for all of my Rving years. I mostly get enough discounts to justify it and I like supporting organizations that support the industry. I also will need new Michelins next year

So would the discount on a set of 22.5 tires be more than the membership cost for a year? I don't need tires yet, but the gears are turning.....
We did research FMCA when we bought out first coach, but really didn't see a bang for the buck. We are not "rally" people and we already have Good Sam Emergency Medical & Evacuation coverage. I don't need another magazine in my (South Dakota) mailbox. Am I missing anything else?

Joe, have you snooped around their website a bit? We are in our second year as members, but not sure we will re-up. We are not big on rallies and such, so that part of it doesn't appeal to us. They have a nice forum but it doesn't see a lot of traffic IMO. I refer to their towing guides occasionally, but that's usually to help answer someone's question about toads on this forum. Oh, and some campgrounds offer an FMCA discount, but usually the same places that honor Good Sam, etc. discounts.

No more free emergency medical service, it's now an option and almost $100 per year.
To me the magazine is worth the membership cost and we do enjoy the rallies when we can get to them.
We're also Good Sam Charter Life Members. At this point I'd drop it and keep FMCA, but we can't really drop GS since we already paid for it and they don't give refunds.

Seems like people are reporting $50 to $150 per tire. YMMV
