I did the Zep wax process on my motorhome last fall. It looked great but now I am in the desert southwest and the wax is turning white and peeling off only on the stripes on the sides of the motorhome. It is still fine on the white where it stays cooler but on the dark gray stripes it is peeling bad. Any ideas? How could I remove the wax on the stripes and not affect the white parts? I would hate to start a whole new process.

By Zep I assume you mean the acrylic floor finish, not wax. At places they sell Zep you can find Zep floor finish stripper. You could carefully apply it to the stripes, then touch up the white panels around the stripes. This is the first time I've heard of this stuff failing like this.

It is also an interior product with no UV rating or inhibitors, such as an auto or boat wax product.

It is a shortcut many choose to take. It is an interior product and I'm not surprised it failed. No, UV Inhibitors. A crook in Florida was selling the stuff for boats. usually after 2 or 3 months in the Florida sun it would yellow then start to peel. Of course he had left the boat show and the buyers with a mess to remove. Easiest way to remove is to get a bucket of water, add TSP and a 1/2 gallon of ammonia. Mop it on (better yet, use a FOAM CANNON and spray it on) let set a few minutes and it will hose off. Safe travels....ed

I use ZEP in the NM sun and heat and winter (yes is gets cold here). No peeling, fading or yellowing. I bet the stripes just dont have a sufficient surface profile for the ZEP to addhere to. Be care full with the ZEP stripper. Its pretty aggessive. I would clean the stripes witht the solution reccomended above.

I have often wondered about applying a floor wax to an RV that is outdoors all of the time. I would certainly not use a harsh floor stripper on my RV. It may damage the decals.

I have been considering applying Mequiars Sealant OVER the ZEP. The Mequiars contains UV inhibitors. It's available in smaller sizes than the below illustration ...
