2019 Airstream Interstate 19

I'm a certified NRVIA inspector and recently inspected a new 2019 Airstream Interstate 19 for a client. She purchased the RV in Ohio and drove it home to California.

She is getting a message on the Airstream Monitor panel that says the house battery is low and not charging by the engine. The house battery is showing 11.8 volts on the panel. She is also seeing a message that says Device COI Output, Name = DC very low.

This tested fine when I inspected the unit. Is there a battery disconnect that could be causing this or should she look for something else?

Also, she questioned me on how to unwinterize the unit. Other than making sure the low point drains and off and putting city water to it, is there anything else unusual that she would need to know?

I'm trying to help her out as best I can being 2000 miles away.

2019 Airstream Interstate 19

For the un-winterizing I suggest that she reads the owner’s manual. Airstream actually has a pretty good one, here: https://www.airstream.com/wp-content...ers-Manual.pdf See section 9-13. Unless the Ohio dealer did some different, these are the steps to restore service. This manual is specific to this model and much better than nearly all I have seen for RVs. From the manual:

1 Re-install the fully charged house battery
2 Close the low point drain valves, holding tank dump valves, water faucets, and fresh water tank drain
3 Reconnect water pump line
4 Add water to the fresh water tank
5 Turn the water pump on
6 Open and close faucet valves one at a time until water runs clear at all faucets signaling RV, non- toxic antifreeze is flushed out of lines. Go back and recheck water clarity at all faucets
7 Turn off water pump
8 Hook up city water, open faucet valves, and recheck water clarity
9 Close water heater drain valve and reset water heater valve to normal operating position

As for the battery charging issue, that same airstream site has a parts list for her model. Perhaps it will include details on if there is a battery isolater in the system. https://www.airstream.com/owners/manuals/page/2/
